A brand new knitted postbox topper and poppy wreath made by the famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ are among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country. Ruddington Reflects on City Centre Attacks

Today police announced they have charged Valdo Calocane, a 31-year-old man of no fixed address, with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder following the early morning attacks in Nottingham city centre on Tuesday (13th June 2023). 19-year-old University of Nottingham students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar were fatally stabbed in Ilkeston Road just after 4am and, later, 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates was found fatally stabbed in Magdala Road. A new poppy display by the now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ is among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country. Adorning the railings in front of St Peter’s Church, near the War Memorial, the Ninjas have had a little extra help creating this one. Since last Thursday’s very sad and rather unexpected news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, residents, businesses and organisations here in Ruddington have been paying their respects in different ways. Buckingham Palace has announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon (Thursday 8th September 2022). She was 96. The Queen was the UK’s longest-serving monarch, reigning for 70 years, with extensive celebrations to mark her Platinum Jubilee having taken place in Ruddington just three months’ ago. Ruddington Graffiti Artist’s Royal Tribute

A professional graffiti artist in our village is among many who have provided some wonderful extra colour for Ruddington’s celebrations of Her Majesty’s seventy years on the throne. The latest work from ‘Creed’ a.k.a. Ainsley Burton (pictured above with sons Harry and Isaac) can be found on the former changing room block at Sellors’ Playing Field – one of several he has been asked to do there over recent years. Ruddington’s Remembrance Services Return

After being cancelled due to the Coronavirus in 2020, ‘physical’ Remembrance commemorations are being held again in Ruddington this year. The first one is, of course, this Thursday, November 11th, for ‘Armistice Day’ – with a Service of Remembrance inside St Peter’s Church, starting at 10am, to which everyone is welcome.
