Second Chance to Comment on Thousands More Green Belt Homes

It was last summer when RUDDINGTON.info revealed the news that 588 houses already approved in four brand new estates on Green Belt land around Ruddington was going to be far from the end of the story. We reported that a new document called the ‘Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan – Growth Options Consultation July 2020′ had gone out for ‘consultation’ – with remarkably little fanfare – published by Greater Nottingham Planning Partnership (GNPP). The original deadline for responses was Monday September 14th 2020. Now, in an apologetic communication to known, previous respondents, GNPP reveals: “We have…

Have Your Say on Planning Enforcement

Ruddington’s three Borough Councillors are encouraging us to have our say on a proposed ‘Code of Practice’ to give the authority more powers of enforcement over breaches in planning control. It’s been hard to turn a corner here recently without coming across some building work or other – whether taking place at the heart of our historic Conservation Area or on the outer fringes of the village. Four significant further housing development sites have been approved recently on former Green Belt land in Ruddington, with construction having started most recently along…

Goodbye Green Belt Number Three

As strict Government instructions to “stay home, save lives and protect the NHS” do not seem to apply to construction workers, there is to be no delay with earth moving machines starting a third, former Green Belt housing development in Ruddington. Within the last few days, residents along Brookside Road and Brookside Gardens with properties on the boundary of the fields west of Wilford Road have all received hand-posted letters from Paul Baker of C3 Construction. This is the company contracted by Bloor Homes to commence the work on its…

Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

More Double-Yellows For Ruddington?

Residents along Asher Lane without off-street parking will soon have fewer options for their vehicles if plans for new ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions go ahead. In fact, the proposals to put double-yellow lines along much of the narrow road, and also at its junctions with Distillery Street, Top Road and Musters Road, will come as no surprise to those who’ve battled long and hard against the new 175 home development there. That’s because they are to formally fulfil one of the planning conditions for the controversial Green Belt…

Asher Lane Construction Commences

Residents along the southern side of Musters Road and Western Fields have something new to watch from their back bedroom windows – the disappearance of the open views they have enjoyed ever since their homes were built. Thanks to the Coronavirus, these householders have actually had rather longer to continue enjoying their green fields and wildlife than the property developer intended – since its imminent groundworks and construction were abruptly halted by the ‘lockdown’ in March. However, to some residents’ chagrin, this was not before a sizeable section of mature hedgerow…

So Now We’re Set For 578 Green Belt Homes

Two more property developers have been left rubbing their hands with glee – after both their major Ruddington planning applications were waved through without any modification or further conditions at this week’s Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) Planning Meeting. Following many years of public consultations and residents’ protests about housebuilding on Ruddington’s Green Belt, last night (Thu 13th Feb) it took less than two hours for eleven Planning Committee members in West Bridgford to decide that Bloor Homes‘ 167 properties would fit just nicely along Wilford Road – and that access, appearance,…

Approval Recommended for 167 More Green Belt Houses

Ruddington’s two most fought-against Green Belt housing developments are up for discussion by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) planners this Thursday. The “reserved matters application to seek approval of the access, appearance, landscaping, layout and scale for the development of 175 new dwellings on land north of Asher Lane” 19/01983/REM follows the shock approval to allow building on this site back in May 2018. But it is the recommendation for Councillors to grant full planning permission to Bloor Homes for a further 167 new homes on the flood-prone agricultural land west…

Balmore To Get Bigger

Hot on the heels of planning approval being given to developers to build a major new retirement complex in Manor Park, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has also given the go-ahead for a major expansion of existing accommodation for elderly residents in Ruddington. Balmore Nursing Home has been granted permission for “two storey and single storey extensions to provide 24 additional bedrooms, an additional conservatory, further sitting room accommodation and additional car parking” on its four acre site at 245-247 Loughborough Road. “Demolition of ancillary buildings” is being allowed in order to…
