Vandals Strike at Ruddington Farm

A clear-up operation is underway following more mindless vandalism in our village – this time causing serious environmental pollution at a farm south of Rushcliffe Country Park. The incident was discovered on Monday morning when a partner in the Ruddington arable farming business found its large irrigation pond had been illegally accessed and pumping equipment there damaged. “Over the weekend, Sunday evening at a guess, a group of people must’ve been partying at the pond” the partner told RUDDINGTON.info. “As I was walking towards the pond, at about 6am, I suddenly became aware…

Auto Crime Dominates Ruddington Offences

New figures just released show that vehicle crime was again the most prevalent problem in our village during May 2020 – even though the total number of offences logged by Rushcliffe Police was lower than the month before. Just ten Ruddington incidents were reported to local officers during the whole of May – compared with thirteen in April. However, these statistics do not include a Nottinghamshire Police drugs raid in our village as part of ‘Operation Alaska’ on May 28th. Beat Managers supported by specialist search trained officers, a force drug dog and the…

Will Tips Reopening Reduce This Fly-Tipping Menace?

It’s hoped eyesore scenes like these over the weekend in Ruddington will become less frequent once all Nottinghamshire County Council recycling centres reopen for residents – then businesses – over the next eight days. This latest fly-tip (top) of a mattress and other household waste was captured on camera by local photographer Paul Witney along Asher Lane. Rubbish including a child’s buggy and artificial Christmas tree was also dumped illegally on a verge alongside Wilford Road, obstructing the footpath (right). Waste from both of these locations will now have to…

In terms of policing the pandemic, Inspector Craig Berry says: “Our role, as it has been since the restrictions were put into place, is to engage…

Local Policing During COVID-19

There is no doubt these are challenging times for policing Ruddington’s streets – in unprecedented circumstances – because of the UK Government’s Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ which began three weeks’ ago. Officers have to decide what is reasonable and unreasonable behaviour with regard to villagers heading out ONLY for brief daily exercise, travel to their work, essential shopping or medical needs – whilst also enforcing the two metre ‘social distancing’ rule if necessary. Persuasion rather than issuing fines has been the general approach so far. Inspector Craig Berry of Rushcliffe Police (pictured top),…

Concerns on Cashpoint Crime

Rushcliffe Police are asking people to be especially vigilant at the moment after recent incidents where ATMs were attacked in the early hours of the morning. Ruddington has three 24-hour cashpoints around the village, and officers say: “If you are passing any cash machines please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police using the 999 system. These attacks are different than some you may have heard about recently where gas has been used to blow open the ATM’s.” Police have also issued a warning to BMW drivers…
