New figures just released show that vehicle crime was again the most prevalent problem in our village during May 2020 – even though the total number of offences logged by Rushcliffe Police was lower than the month before.
Just ten Ruddington incidents were reported to local officers during the whole of May – compared with thirteen in April.
However, these statistics do not include a Nottinghamshire Police drugs raid in our village as part of ‘Operation Alaska’ on May 28th. Beat Managers supported by specialist search trained officers, a force drug dog and the force drone secured and searched a house in Abingdon Drive in Ruddington, and two other locations in Cotgrave. Police report that evidence of Class A and B drugs were seized at two properties and two men were interviewed.
Neighbourhood Inspector Craig Berry says: “I’m pleased with the progress we are making to put a stop to drug offences across Rushcliffe. We’ve been using a number of tactics to catch drug dealers completely unawares and we feel we’re in a position now where we have eyes and ears everywhere. I’m confident that the activity so far has already significantly disrupted drugs line across the Borough. We really appreciated the support we’ve had from the local community, who have continued to engage with us and provide vital intelligence which has led to a lot of the activity. As well as the action side of the operation, we’ve been taking the time to visit people in their homes, speak to them about what’s going on and reassure them.”
The inspector adds: “The team have been working really hard and we aim to keep this momentum up. Drug dealing targets and involves the most vulnerable in our communities and leads to all sorts of crimes so we don’t want it to be happening on our door step.”
