A new poppy display by the now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ is among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country. Adorning the railings in front of St Peter’s Church, near the War Memorial, the Ninjas have had a little extra help creating this one. This latest burst of creative, knitted activity has just hit our village centre for the summer – courtesy of the now infamous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’. This year’s Makers’ Night is taking place on Friday 24th June from 4pm until 9pm and expands on last September’s event by adding even more village locations to the line-up. Ruddington Graffiti Artist’s Royal Tribute

A professional graffiti artist in our village is among many who have provided some wonderful extra colour for Ruddington’s celebrations of Her Majesty’s seventy years on the throne. The latest work from ‘Creed’ a.k.a. Ainsley Burton (pictured above with sons Harry and Isaac) can be found on the former changing room block at Sellors’ Playing Field – one of several he has been asked to do there over recent years. Originally the park’s custodians, Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), had proposed to demolish this building after it became a target for vandals and illegal graffiti.…

Royal Balcony Vandalised

The ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ are appealing for villagers’ help after their knitted Royal Balcony scene was ripped off the railings of St Peter’s Church last night (Sunday 29th May)*. *GOOD NEWS – UPDATE BELOW! The display was one of dozens meticulously crafted and put in place recently around our village in a ‘Yarn Bomb’ for residents and visitors to enjoy during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Eagle-eyed Ruddingtonians will already have spotted the appearance of some new, knitted creations around our village – courtesy of the now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’. Following a similar ‘Yarn Bomb’ at Christmas, and one or two changing pillar box toppers outside the Co-op before and after that, marking topical events, the ‘Ninjas’ have been very busy getting ready to celebrate the long Queen’s ‘Platinum Jubilee’ weekend next month. ‘Ruddy Kind Acts’ Initiative Launches

For the past few Christmases, residents of Ruddington have benefitted from ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ – where a mystery benefactor and his helpers have posted hundreds of envelopes marked ‘R.A.K’, each containing £100 in cash to lucky local recipients in our village, Clifton and Silverdale. Some villagers even had a wad of money thrust at them whilst walking down the street! Visitors to Ruddington village centre are being treated to an array of amazing, knitted creations this Christmas after an unexpected ‘yarn bomb’ added a new dimension to our more conventional festive decorations. With the usual traders’ Christmas trees and St Peter’s Rooms light installation already in place, yesterday (December 3rd) a group calling itself ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ swept through Church Street with hundreds of additional, seasonal creations to bring some festive colour for yuletide shoppers and sightseers. Ruddington is where the award-winning Debbie Bryan independent brand chose to open its second creative space in October 2020 (St. Mary’s Gate gallery in the City was launched in 2009) and staff recall the gallery’s “warm welcome by the village“. That’s the name of a new Facebook Group specifically for makers and buyers of local, handmade items in our village. It’s been set up both for the benefit of those who live in Ruddington, and produce homemade items themselves, and for residents who like to buy handmade products whilst shopping locally at the same time.
