Plans drawn up by Via East Midlands to implement a temporary one-way system in Ruddington village centre, with the aim of improving traffic flow and providing extra parking, have been rejected by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC). It follows the short public consultation, on which we reported last month, to find out the views of residents and traders on introducing such traffic measures to help with COVID-19 safeguarding. Both Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) and Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) asked for these measures to be given due consideration as a way of mitigating the effects…

Hospice Shop Reopens
A popular Ruddington charity shop is finally back in business again – over sixth months after having to close its doors due to the Spring Coronavirus ‘lockdown’. Bosses from Nottinghamshire Hospice decided to use this window of opportunity to carry out an impromptu ‘refurbishment’ to our village outlet, since drain work was also required on the premises. This had almost been completed in July, ready for reopening, when disaster struck: A severe thunderstorm hit Ruddington and the resulting deluge flooded many High Street shops – including number 10. As we…
Read MoreCOVID Confusion Leads to Ruddington Pub Fine
A misunderstanding of the latest COVID-19 rules has led to a public house in Ruddington receiving a £1,000 fixed penalty notice for breaching current guidelines. It’s after The White Horse Inn accepted a booking with a total of 34 people for a birthday celebration on September 26th – having initially refused an enquiry to host 72 at the event. Although each party was booked individually, on socially distanced tables of no more than six, apparently that contravenes the latest Government restrictions for the hospitality industry! Rushcliffe Borough Council subsequently issued a fine to…

Whether you’re a regular commuter, planning a shopping trip to the city or heading to Ruddington for a #RuddyGoodDayOut, our village’s main public transport provider is reassuring passengers that its Navy 3 and Green 10 buses are clean, safe and ‘good to go’! The Department for Transport (DfT) has just updated its Safer Travel Guidance for Passengers and NCT…
Read MoreWhy is Ruddington so Popular for Home Buyers Right Now?
Benwell Daykin reported last month that the property market is currently going through somewhat of a boom. Since then, many national news outlets have also reported some of the biggest property price growth seen in over five years. At our estate agency, demand for Ruddington property has always been high. However, we are seeing a huge increase in enquiries for property in the village and the surrounding areas. But why is this? The freeze on stamp duty is certainly playing its part, with more and more families taking the opportunity…

A new online platform – which aims to make both becoming a volunteer and requesting help in Ruddington a simple, safe and effective process – is being launched this weekend. Although Help My Street is a national, not-for-profit Community Interest Company, the team who mobilised volunteers in our village to help our vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ has worked alongside Ruddington Parish Council to develop a dedicated Ruddington homepage – the first village in Nottinghamshire to have one. This will allow people from our community to register to help others in…
Read MoreRuddington Resurfacing Suspended After Workers ‘Abused’
Just hours after the long awaited resurfacing work began on Camelot Street this morning, contractors called a halt and went home – citing dangerous behaviour and abuse from some motorists. This bizarre turn of events follows the widely welcomed decision by Nottinghamshire County Council in July to finally proceed with a complete overhaul of the badly potholed stretch of road which had been put on hold until after the building of the Lace Gardens development was complete. As we’ve previously reported, preparatory work began at the start of September. Shortly afterwards,…

As new government Coronavirus restrictions begin today – in a bid to prevent a major second wave of COVID-19 infections – village businesses owners say they’re all set for the new rules aimed at keeping their customers safe. These extra laws are especially relevant to Ruddington’s pubs, cafés, bars and restaurants which must now close by 10pm. Not only that, those serving alcohol will also be restricted to providing table service only – whilst, for all hospitality venues, face masks will be compulsory for bar staff, waiters and non-seated customers.…
