Ruddington village centre shoppers will have slightly less choice from this weekend when our Sainsbury’s Local closes its doors permanently – after just over a decade on Dutton’s Hill. RUDDINGTON.info first revealed this shock news back in October last year, when it transpired this shop had already been earmarked for closure over 12 months’ earlier – along with up to 40 other Sainsbury’s outlets across the UK. However, that was before the COVID-19 outbreak when it appeared villagers were actually making very good use of the Wilford Road convenience store during the…

Further Vandalism at Our Heritage Railway
Volunteers at Great Central Railway Nottingham (GCRN) now have some more unexpected and unwelcome work to do after trespassers at the Ruddington site decided to spray graffiti onto one of the 125 Group‘s recently restored MK3 coaches. The Heritage Centre is already facing great financial challenges thanks to the Coronavirus – having been unable to run any passenger services from there since the February half-term last year. Whilst not on the scale of the vandalism in 2019, it’s still very upsetting and disheartening for all those involved. This latest, mindless act was discovered…

Construction work is now underway on a brand new ‘plaza’ style skatepark in Ruddington – which should be ready for use by this spring. Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is building a replacement concrete facility at Rushcliffe Country Park which has been designed by Canvas (top image) in close collaboration with the young people from our village and elsewhere who will use it. It’s hoped the contemporary skatepark will meet the needs of future Olympic skateboarders and BMXers from Ruddington and the surrounding areas. As shown in Charlene Robinson’s photo below, workmen have now moved…

Even though it’s currently unable to open, due to the latest COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ restrictions, owners and staff at a popular Ruddington public house and restaurant have still got something rather special to smile about. The Ruddington Arms on Wilford Road is celebrating another listing in the prestigious Michelin Guide – the 2021 edition of which has been revealed this week. The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that it’s come out four months later than usual – as well as being published in digital format only. Nevertheless, inclusion in the internationally renowned food bible…
Read MoreDismay at Dangerous Drivers
Villagers are up in arms about the large number of motorists flouting a current four-day road closure in Ruddington. As we reported last week, Clifton Road was shut to through-traffic yesterday (Monday) to allow major resurfacing work which is needed to repair damage caused by a burst water main earlier this month. Despite the icy conditions, and the fact that the old road surface was removed yesterday, eyewitnesses say numerous drivers are simply disregarding the closure by mounting the kerb and either driving along the pavement or going up on…

Ruddington’s three Borough Councillors are encouraging us to have our say on a proposed ‘Code of Practice’ to give the authority more powers of enforcement over breaches in planning control. It’s been hard to turn a corner here recently without coming across some building work or other – whether taking place at the heart of our historic Conservation Area or on the outer fringes of the village. Four significant further housing development sites have been approved recently on former Green Belt land in Ruddington, with construction having started most recently along…
Read MoreA Further Four Day Road Closure
Village residents are being warned there’s more disruption ahead for drivers when one of Ruddington’s busiest roads is closed again for major repairs. Earlier this month Clifton Road was shut to traffic for 24 hours after Severn Trent Water workmen turned up to fix a burst water main on a Sunday (January 10th 2021) but there was no one available to fill in the hole and patch the road until the next day. Now highways officials have decided the already well-worn stretch of road needs major attention, following this latest…
