Ruddington’s New Retirement Village

If you’ve been down Loughborough Road in Ruddington recently you’ll notice some big changes are happening at Balmore Country House. The historic Ruddington property set in leafy surroundings, which now serves as a most attractive care home for a growing community of residents, is currently being enlarged by owners MyCare to provide a plethora of new onsite facilities. Originally a 42 bed care home, a sympathetically designed extension has been added recently – with 28 new bedrooms over two floors – and there’s still more to come. Some rooms downstairs have…

What’s Happening with The Children’s Society Shop?

Whilst our village centre is now ‘buzzing’ again following the return of non-essential retail after a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions on April 12th, shoppers may have noticed there’s still no sign of life at one of Ruddington’s much loved charity shops. The Children’s Society Shop at the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street closed its doors over a year ago – at the beginning of the first Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ – and hasn’t traded again since. A notice on the door has long been directing TCS customers wishing to shop or…

Former Youth Centre to Be Demolished and Replaced

The new owners of the former Youth & Community Centre on The Green – which has lain empty and disused for over four years – have revealed how they plan to bulldoze it and erect more modern facilities in its place. As we’ve previously reported, Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) bought the building from Nottinghamshire County Council in 2019. Their planned public consultation on its future was delayed by the Coronavirus outbreak. Meantime, the onsite parking there has been made available to village traders in order to free up visitor spaces nearer the shops.…

COVID Kits Now Available in Ruddington

The gradual easing of Coronavirus restrictions means you may now wish to take the opportunity to get together with a wider circle of people in our village (and beyond) to exercise and socialise – albeit in a ‘socially distanced’ way. However, all personal contact still carries risks, even if you’ve been vaccinated. Therefore, if you’d like to reassure yourself you have not picked up COVID-19 which you could inadvertently pass on to others, you can now collect a FREE kit from Evans Pharmacy on Charles Street*. This ‘lateral flow test’…

132 Per Cent Rise in Antisocial Behaviour in Ruddington?

New statistics just published by Nottinghamshire Police indicate the number of reported incidents of ‘antisocial behaviour’ in our village shot up by 132 per cent during the Coronavirus pandemic. Figures from the past twelve months of COVID-19 restrictions and ‘lockdowns’ show Ruddington’s increase was second only to the Ashfield District of Nottinghamshire – leading to alarmist stories in some local news media. However, thankfully for us, it seems this does not give an accurate picture. In fact, for the whole year, the number of reported cases rose from just 83…

Compound Strength & Conditioning Reopens

As the ‘roadmap’ out of the national ‘lockdown’ continues, Ruddington’s main fitness providers are eager to show health-conscious villagers their expanded facilities. Compound Strength & Conditioning reopened its doors on Monday 12th April along with brand new sister gym Compound Second Space two doors’ away. The independent, locally run fitness centres provide everything from open gym to personal training to sports massage – and have studio space available for instructors to rent, too.  They’re also the home of Nottingham Weightlifting Club. Co-owners Jules Abbott, Sam ‘Bobby’ Goulding and Max Abbott {pictured} are promising a COVID-safe environment…
