Ruddington Tree Wardens Wanted

An appeal has been launched by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) for environmentally minded Ruddington residents to apply to become tree wardens – and ensure the trees in our village are protected and nurtured. Tree wardens are volunteers appointed by Parish Councils to champion local trees and woods, involve fellow residents in tree projects and protect local trees by reporting early signs of insect pests, disease and vandalism. The initiative follows RBC’s free tree scheme last year – which saw over 1,600 trees given to residents and Parish Councils to plant in…

Long Awaited Footpath and Cycleway Opened!

Ruddington’s long campaigned for “safe” footway from Clifton Road via the Old Station Drive development directly into the Pasture Lane Estate is finally finished. Land clearance along its route was undertaken late last year before construction began in earnest on January 7th. Ten weeks later, the main work has now been completed on schedule – with the footpath quietly opening to pedestrians without any ceremony today (Saturday March 16th). Once workers had completed installation of the bollards and swept up, they lifted away the last of the site fencing and traffic…

Another Asher Lane Consultation!

Ruddington residents who’ve previously commented or objected to the outline planning application for 175 new houses down Asher Lane have received an unexpected extra letter from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Even though permission has already been granted for this Green Belt development following a controversial intervention by the Government Planning Inspectorate last May – landowner Space Foods Limited is now pushing for the access to be allowed via Musters Road rather than the (approved) Asher Lane one. You can read all the background to this latest appeal >>HERE<<. Even though it was…

Marking Our Country Park’s Aviation History

A special plaque has been unveiled which acknowledges Ruddington’s role in providing a key airfield during World War One. The Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust plaque has been installed on ‘Fowemer Hill‘ in Rushcliffe Country Park, commemorating the area that was used as a take-off and landing strip during The Great War by No38 Squadron from December 1916 to August 1917. It was also then used after World War One by local aircraft owner and resident Harold Ashworth in the 1930s – who went on to join the Royal Air Force. Records…

Landowner Appeals for Musters Road Access

A Ruddington Green Belt site already given outline planning approval for 175 new homes is now the subject of a second appeal by the landowner – this time over the decision by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) to refuse it an alternative access route. The last time Space Foods Ltd appealed to the Government’s Planning Inspectorate – when RBC rejected plans for 175 homes on this land off Asher Lane – its appeal was successful! This was to the dismay of local residents, Ruddington Action Group (RAG) and Ruddington Parish Council – who’d fought long and hard to prevent a…

“Amazing” Support For Our New Village Market

Organisers of our new Ruddington Village Market say they’re “gobsmacked” by the number of both villagers and visitors from further afield who turned out for today’s inaugural event. They estimate over two thousand people braved the icy conditions this morning to see what the new monthly market at The White Horse Inn had to offer. A queue began to form even before the ribbon cutting at 9am for the official launch – with the first ten punters through the gate claiming their free cotton carrier bag especially designed for the…

Alleged Fly-Tippers Have Vehicle Seized

Individuals who allegedly fly-tipped fridges on the A52 near Wheatcroft Island have had their vehicle seized by Rushcliffe Borough Council officers and Nottinghamshire Police. It follows several incidences of the items being dumped in the area, leading to the use of CCTV capturing those in the act during December 2018. It’s just been revealed the white van linked to the fly-tipping (pictured top) was confiscated on January 11th on Grant Street in Nottingham. This is the second vehicle to be seized in connection with illegal waste dumping – after a red van…

Fly-Tipping in Ruddington Continues

Frustration is growing that the illegal dumping of waste seems to be continuing unabated around our village despite Council and Police efforts to thwart the criminals who’re doing it. It was reported last month that a vehicle belonging to suspected fly-tippers had been seized but further incidents have since followed, including this most recent one.  Elissa Hawksworth was again the first to alert us to the latest pile of old fridges and freezers (top photo – courtesy of Paul Witney) which have been dumped at the entrance to NFU Mutual and Barn Farm…

Clifton Road Footpath & Cycleway Construction Begins!

It’s been announced that the creation of Ruddington’s long awaited “safe” footway from Clifton Road via the Old Station Drive development directly into the Pasture Lane Estate will finally begin this Monday! The news follows a seven year campaign launched by former Parish Councillor Barbara Breakwell, after residents from the new housing complained of their “dangerous” daily walk, especially with young children. The single, narrow footpath over the former railway bridge beside (the now very busy) Clifton Road {left} has remained their only access to the northern end of the village because the…
