After having escaped the worst impacts of the bad weather sweeping the UK earlier this week, Ruddington has seen the heaviest snowfall of the winter during the past 24 hours – thanks to the effects of the so-called “Beast From The East”. Villagers awoke to a blanket of around three inches of drifting snow this morning – accompanied by icy north-easterly winds. Driving conditions were treacherous for a while, however Nottingham City Transport has so far managed to maintain a near-normal service on our Navy 3 and Green 10 buses…

U3A is Coming to Ruddington!
In case you don’t already know, U3A is short for The University of the Third Age. Nottinghamshire organisers are keen to find out if there’s an interest among older villagers to set up one or more groups here in Ruddington. Paul Martinez explains: “We are for retired and semi-retired people and we share learning, fun and friendship in a vibrant, enjoyable and varied way. Members suggest and organise interest groups in a wide variety of subjects, both educational and social. No qualifications are required and none are given.” There have been…

You may remember that something of a milestone was reached last summer with the publication of the definitive Ruddington Village Plan – your vision for how our village should develop over the next 5 to 10 years. This final version of the Plan was launched in August at the 2017 Ruddington “Summer Fayre” by RVP steering group volunteers (top photo) when villagers could pick up a printed copy of the completed document, ask questions and volunteer themselves for projects flagged up by four years of research. (You can read more about the background >>HERE<<.) The final plan itself contained…

Read MoreWhen Cutting a Corner is Welcomed
A public spirited villager has come to the rescue in Ruddington. The pavement on the corner of St John’s Road and St Mary’s Crescent has a very steep kerb making it difficult, even dangerous, for mobility scooter and wheelchair users, people with prams and with pushchairs to negotiate the corner safely. A complaint was received by Ruddington Parish Council after a mobility scooter user fell into the road from the slope. Fortunately the lady was only slightly injured. The Parish Council Office contacted Nottinghamshire County Council who replied that there…
