Rushcliffe Police say Saturday’s easing of ‘lockdown’ restrictions – meaning Ruddington’s numerous pubs and other hospitality venues could reopen their premises – did not create any major issues for its officers. This weekend Ruddington Village Market returned after a four month physical absence, and it was a huge success – with organisers, traders and visitors doing an outstanding job of relaunching as a ‘socially distanced’ market in its new location on the village green. At 9am everyone was ready to go, and queues started forming at some of the most missed and hotly anticipated stands. Dubbed ‘Super Saturday’, TODAY sees the latest step in the Government’s easing down of COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ restrictions. Our village pubs, cafés, bars, restaurants, barbers and hairdressers are now permitted to open for the first time since March 20th. It seems the majority in Ruddington are actually doing so. This week sees another milestone in the UK Government’s easing of COVID-19 Coronavirus restrictions – with non-essential shops added to the list of businesses allowed to reopen, provided they can implement stringent new hygiene and 2 metre ‘social distancing’ requirements to protect customers and staff. The Village Market Returns!

Ruddington’s popular, monthly market will be back this July – after being suspended for the past three months due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. Now that Government ‘lockdown’ restrictions are being eased, its organisers Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) have decided it will be safe and practical to restart Ruddington Village Market on Saturday July 4th – albeit initially with fewer stalls and a new location to enable ‘social distancing’ at the event. The old willow tree on The Green isn’t the only big thing that’s missing from our village this weekend. Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st May were also set to be the dates of RuddFest 2020 – Ruddington’s now legendary beer and cider festival. Following the success of the Instagram Live ‘Virtual’ market, traders from Ruddington Village Market came together to showcase their products in a limited edition VE Day hamper to help the village commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe), which marked the end of the Second World War against Germany. If society was operating normally, the weekend of 8th to 10th May would have been a period of national commemoration for the 75th Anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe), which marked the end of the Second World War against Germany. Ruddington Receives £5,000 of Emergency Funding

Volunteers in Ruddington are celebrating securing a slice of the Nottinghamshire County Council cash which has been allocated to help support communities during the COVID-19 crisis. The first round of County Council funding – so far worth more than £260,000 overall – has just been awarded to 85 groups helping vulnerable Nottinghamshire residents through the Coronavirus pandemic. £5,000 from that pot is coming to our village. ‘The Nottinghamshire £1m Community Fund’ forms part of the Council’s response to provide advice and support for communities during the unprecedented outbreak. Boris Johnson’s Monday night announcement that all high street shops selling ‘non-essential’ goods must stop trading straight away, as part of the Government’s ever tightening controls to contain the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, has obviously had a huge extra impact on our normally thriving village.
