EURO 2021 at The White Horse

We’re being invited to get behind England this month as the delayed UEFA European Football Championships finally get underway. The White Horse Inn has created a dedicated ‘Ruddington Fan Park’ featuring large outdoor screens for COVID safe viewing of all the big matches during the EURO 2021 tournament. However, booking a table as soon as possible is strongly advised because the Church Street venue expects very high demand – especially during the England games. Pub owner Andy Hunt says: “After everything we’ve been through we need good events like this –…

Indoor Hospitality Reopens

This week’s milestone date of Monday 17th May has been pencilled in our diaries for a few months now – the point promised on the ‘roadmap’ for a further easing of Coronavirus restrictions in England – assuming all went to plan. Hospitality venues in Ruddington preparing to reopen indoors had begun wondering in recent days whether clusters of cases of the new ‘Indian’ COVID-19 variant in other parts of the UK might put a spanner in the works – following fresh warnings from some scientists not to proceed with ‘Step 3’…

Ruddington’s Ready for The Glorious 12th!

Okay. So we’re talking about the 12th of April rather than the 12th of August. Moreover, this month no grouse (grouses? grice? – Ed) will be put in peril. However, Monday is poised to be the glorious day which most residents have been longing for – when Ruddington’s non-essential shops, salons, outdoor hospitality, gyms and certain other establishments can finally reopen after our third ‘lockdown’! After three months of further tight controls to ‘control the Coronavirus’, now the vaccine rollout is well underway across England, the Government ‘roadmap’ has navigated us…

It’s Census Sunday!

This weekend will see a once-in-a-decade event which gives a snapshot of life right now in Ruddington and beyond. ‘Census 2021’, run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), takes place on Sunday 21st Match. By now, every village household should have received the documents above – each with a unique web access code – to enable residents to complete it. The Census, responses to which are required by law, is sent to every residential property across England and Wales. The information people give will decide how services are planned and funded.…

The team at the new business have worked hard to bring something different…

A Sign of Better Times

Eagle-eyed travellers entering Ruddington this week may already have spotted a subtle new addition to our village gateway signs – indicating that things should be starting to get back to normal. After a further break of three months, during the latest Coronavirus ‘lockdown’, it’s been confirmed that Ruddington Village Market will return to The Green in April. The smart new signs (below), produced in time for what would have been the ‘second birthday’ market in February, have since been sitting in storage until it was considered safe to resume the monthly…

RuddFest is Postponed Again

It’s been revealed that Ruddington’s much loved annual Beer and Cider Festival – which usually attracts thousands of visitors – will not be taking place this June as planned, due to continuing concerns about COVID-19. The decision was made in the wake of the Government’s ‘roadmap’ announcement on Monday that restrictions on large events and some hospitality will not be lifted until June 21st at the earliest – which is after the originally scheduled RuddFest 2021 dates of June 3rd-6th.  Last year’s event was first postponed and then cancelled altogether because of the Coronavirus…

Ruddington Gastropub Does it Again!

Even though it’s currently unable to open, due to the latest COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ restrictions, owners and staff at a popular Ruddington public house and restaurant have still got something rather special to smile about. The Ruddington Arms on Wilford Road is celebrating another listing in the prestigious Michelin Guide – the 2021 edition of which has been revealed this week.
