Jon’s Marathon Effort for Bereavement Charity

A community-spirited Ruddington businessman is swapping three wheels for two legs to take on the ultimate challenge this spring – running the 2023 London Marathon! Jon Lee, owner of National Car Finder on Easthorpe Street, began his training last July and has regularly been seen pounding the streets of Ruddington (and beyond) ever since – as he prepares himself mentally and physically for the 26.2 mile run around some of the capital’s most famous landmarks on Sunday April 23rd. “Many will know I enjoy playing cricket and watching football –…

New Year, Longer Market!

As Ruddington Village Market prepares to celebrate its fourth birthday, the team behind it has revealed visitors will have even more time to browse the many stalls in 2023. From February 4th onwards, our monthly market on The Green will open from 9.00am all the way through to 2.00pm – an hour and a half longer than previously. It’s envisaged there will still be around seventy independent stalls on the first Saturday of each month, comprising businesses from the village plus many visiting traders. Additionally, there’s a ‘Charity of the…

More Ruddington Aid for Ukraine

Organisers of a popular pre-Christmas concert in our village have revealed that it raised hundreds of pounds for humanitarian aid in war-torn Ukraine. ‘Handel’s Messiah’ is traditionally performed every two years by Ruddington & District Choral Society (RDCS) in St Peter’s Church. This time around, on Monday December 12th, its members chose the work of The British Red Cross in Ukraine as the good cause to support. Thanks to the generosity of the audience, following their performance a total of £500 was raised towards the aid effort. RDCS Secretary Maggie Bar…

Ruddington’s Fight Against Food Waste

Representatives from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) have been in Ruddington today to see at first hand the impressive progress made by a village initiative launched last Easter with the primary aim of reducing food waste in our community. Since then, project founders Carol Jaggers, Gwen Eyre and their volunteers have been opening the doors of ‘The Ruddington Pantry’ twice a week to hand out good quality, surplus food, free of charge from local food retailers (especially Ruddington Co-op) plus village gardeners and restaurants. Residents have also been encouraged to donate to the…

Ruddington Christmas Light Trail Returns

Villagers certainly seemed to have pulled out all the stops this year to get into the festive spirit – with properties throughout Ruddington adorned with colourful lights and decorations ready to guide in Santa and his reindeer on the big day. Their efforts are being applauded by The Friends of James Peacock Junior School who’ve created a brand new ‘Christmas Light Trail’ running between now and 4th January 2023. One of the organisers, Nathalie Mortimer, says: “Further to the success of our Christmas lights trail two years’ ago, it’s back with a sparkle! Local…

Ruddington’s New Gift Shop

The retail area of one of Ruddington’s top tourist attractions has been transformed this week thanks to a significant cash boost. We reported in October how £8,335 had been awarded towards The Framework Knitter’s Museum‘s ‘Shop Improvement Project’ through the Museum Development East Midlands (MDEM)’s Recovery and Reboot Grants. This also included core funding and a donation from ‘The Friends of the Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum’. It’s involved the installation of a reception desk for ‘point of sale’ alongside extensive new display cabinets and shelving in ‘Parker’s Yard’ – which sits within the former…

‘Pay What You Can’ for Christmas

Ruddington’s community spirit is shining brightly this festive season, with another village initiative launched this week to help cash-strapped families and individuals cope with the spiralling cost of… virtually everything! Called ‘Pay What You Can’, it’s the idea of village centre trader Sarah Burton (pictured) from Phoenix Flowers. She explains: “With the cost of living, and Christmas coming up, I know a lot of families must be stressed and struggling right now. I was going through some bits to donate to charity the other day but had an idea… what if we…

Christmas 2022 in Ruddington

After the ‘lockdown’ Christmas of 2020, and the rather restrained festive season of 2021, Ruddington’s celebrations in 2022 look as if they might just be the biggest and best ever! That’s certainly the case for this weekend’s ‘Ruddington Christmas Market’ (on Saturday December 3rd) which, as previously reported, will comprise over a hundred indoor and outdoor stalls of food, drink and gifts, two covered pop-up bars and stages of live music, and children’s activities. Now organised by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) it will take place along both High Street and Church Street (road closures…

New Rail ‘Reunification’ Bridge Arrives!

Reaching the stage when trains will once again be able to run all the way from Ruddington to Leicester has got another step closer this week – with the lowering into place of a replacement Great Central Railway (GCR) bridge over the A60. As RUDDINGTON.info reported last month, this brand new structure was needed to replace the old bridge (number 326) near the Brush factory, on the outskirts of Loughborough, which was in such poor condition that the line over it needed to be closed on safety grounds back in September…
