More Parish Council Vacancies

Ruddington Parish Council is looking for community-minded villagers to fill more of its seats after the resignation of two further councillors. The vacancies have arisen in Easthorpe Ward and Manor Ward following the departures of Marilyn Robinson and George Ellison respectively. No reasons have been given for their decisions to stand down. However it follows a raft of other councillor resignations over the past year – resulting in a contested election for one seat and others where four candidates were elected unopposed. In order for a poll to be held this time, at least…

An Accident Waiting to Happen?

Drivers who park in our village centre are being reminded of the strict one-way system through the car park! It follows complaints to Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) about motorists using the entrance instead of the exit to leave the Church Street Car Park alongside the Co-op. This is despite the entrance on Church Street being both road-marked and signposted as ‘No Exit’ and the actual exit on Shaw Street also being clearly marked. Now, due to concerns for pedestrians and other drivers, to tackle the problem the Parish Council (which…

Neighbourhood Plan Gets Approval

Ruddington Parish Council has given its backing to a new plan which, it’s claimed, will give village residents direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood – and shape the development and growth of our local area. It’s expected to pick up directly from our Ruddington Village Plan which was published this summer. With a Neighbourhood Plan communities are given additional influence to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built and have their say on what those new buildings should look like. Issues which could be…

Gateway Signs Go Up

The installation of Ruddington’s smart new boundary signs, beside the main roads at the five gateways to our village, was completed today. Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) funded and commissioned the signposts to be created by Ruddington-based graphic design agency WigWag. They were then produced by specialist firm Signs of the Times in Leighton Buzzard and put into place today by RM Installations. They brand Ruddington as “The Museums Village” but haven’t replaced the existing signs, which are owned by Nottinghamshire County Council. Instead RPC says they “play a different role by celebrating our culture and heritage”. The bold, watercolour artwork features the Framework Knitters’ Museum and Village Museum buildings, along with…

Gateway Signs Are Go!

Back in January we reported that Ruddington is to get brand new boundary signs beside the main roads at the five gateways to our village. Ruddington Unchained!

The removal of chains is usually celebrated in society. But not always, it seems, if they are those which used to surround Ruddington’s historic village green! As you can see, perimeter posts now stand with nothing in-between after the decorative but spiky links were taken down in an apparent health and safety move by Ruddington Parish Council. Commenting on Ruddington’s Facebook page resident Nicholas Broadberry said “50 years of chains and countless kids falling over them and now they take them down . What a sad silly world we now live in.”  However it…
