A Ruddington based business development representative is now sporting this smooth new look – after he ‘braved-the-shave’ this week to raise funds for a national mental health charity. 20-year-old Martin Bassey {pictured ‘before’ and ‘after’ his sponsored head-shave above} works in the marketing department at HR, payroll, and finance specialists MHR, in ‘Britannia House’ on Mere Way. He raised over £1,200 for Mind in the process – more than four times his fundraising target of £300. Contributions have come from friends, family and colleagues plus a £500 donation from MHR itself. Special School Plans Approved

The wheels are now in motion for a Grade 2 listing building here in Ruddington to begin a new chapter in its history – after planning permission for a ‘special school’ there was granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). As RUDDINGTON.info reported in April, an application was submitted by Polaris Children’s Services to turn ‘Easthorpe House’ at 165, Loughborough Road into a school for pupils with special educational needs. When NHS Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group relocated from Easthorpe House to new premises in June 2020, the future of the Grade 2 listed Ruddington property looked rather uncertain. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing by then, for its landlords Carlton Street Trading finding new tenants for this large but attractive building off Loughborough Road was likely to prove more difficult than usual. Ruddington Allotment Project Receives Vital Funding

A group that manages a Ruddington allotment has received vital funding from ‘Reach Rushcliffe’ to help redevelop their gardening space to aid local residents’ health and mental wellbeing. The Rushcliffe Social Prescribing Group run a plot at the ‘Paradise Gardens’ allotments off Wilford Road which has received the funds to assist with the purchase of a summer house, planters, plants, soil and paving to give the site more accessibility. Rushcliffe’s 5k Parkrun Returns

Ruddington welcomed the return of its weekly 5k Parkrun for adults this morning (Saturday 24th July) after an unprecedented sixteen month gap. It was suspended back in March 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic so participants today were clearly keen to get their running shoes and high-vis back on! Whilst Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun had already resumed on Sunday mornings, for 4 to 10 year-olds, in April, Parkrun UK decided to wait for a further lifting of Coronavirus restrictions before restarting the timed run for the grown-ups on Saturday mornings. Excitement is mounting amongst younger children from our village (and beyond) that Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun will be back from Sunday April 11th at 9.00am! The usually weekly event in Ruddington’s Country Park has been cancelled for just over a year due to the Coronavirus pandemic – which, of course, led to Government restrictions on large gatherings.
