Proud At James Peacock’s!

Ahead of Ruddington’s two schools breaking up for Christmas this week, parents of pupils at one of them had chance to go along and admire their children’s seasonal artwork. Many village mums and dads took their opportunity to visit James Peacock Infant & Nursery School in Manor Park on Monday (19th December) to discover what their sons and daughters had created; with just a little help from the staff. “We are so proud of our incredible children in Foundation 2 for putting on a fabulous ‘Winter Wonderland’ art exhibition this week!”…

Ruddington Christmas Light Trail Returns

Villagers certainly seemed to have pulled out all the stops this year to get into the festive spirit – with properties throughout Ruddington adorned with colourful lights and decorations ready to guide in Santa and his reindeer on the big day. Their efforts are being applauded by The Friends of James Peacock Junior School who’ve created a brand new ‘Christmas Light Trail’ running between now and 4th January 2023. One of the organisers, Nathalie Mortimer, says: “Further to the success of our Christmas lights trail two years’ ago, it’s back with a sparkle! Local…

Christmas 2022 in Ruddington

After the ‘lockdown’ Christmas of 2020, and the rather restrained festive season of 2021, Ruddington’s celebrations in 2022 look as if they might just be the biggest and best ever! That’s certainly the case for this weekend’s ‘Ruddington Christmas Market’ (on Saturday December 3rd) which, as previously reported, will comprise over a hundred indoor and outdoor stalls of food, drink and gifts, two covered pop-up bars and stages of live music, and children’s activities. Now organised by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) it will take place along both High Street and Church Street (road closures…

Ruddington’s Little Library

Local residents are certainly coming up with some imaginative ways of coping with the current cost of living crisis – and this latest one is good for our planet, too!  It has recycling at its heart and, as the name suggests, it won’t cost you a penny to use. You may already have spotted Ruddington’s ‘Little Free Library’ if you’ve headed along St Mary’s Crescent recently, without actually realising what this smart little wooden cupboard is all about, or what’s in it.  Of course, a closer inspection reveals the answer is books –…

Wear Odd Socks and Beat the Bullies

Pupils and staff at a Ruddington school will be wearing mis-matched socks again this Monday – to help highlight the problem of bullying. The 14th November 2022 is officially ‘Odd Socks Day’ and marks the start of ‘Anti-Bullying Week’. All children and adults at St Peter’s Junior School on Ashworth Avenue are being encouraged to wear socks of different colours.  It adds that parents and carers are more than welcome to take part, too. In its latest bulletin, the school says: “It is a great way to celebrate what makes…

The organisers of Ruddington’s Junior Parkrun have released final details about the two very special visitors coming to our Country Park this weekend. As previously reported, Pudsey Bear and celebrity body-coach Joe Wicks will be taking part in Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun this Sunday, 13th November 2022, as part of BBC Children in Need‘s annual fundraising. However, it’s worth noting some significant changes to Ruddington’s usual weekly event for 4 to 14 year-olds. In fact, Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun will be officially cancelled on the day – to make way for ‘Walk with Joe’. This means there…

£8k Funding for Improved Museum Shop

Staff and volunteers at Ruddington’s historic Framework Knitters’ Museum are celebrating the award of new cash to upgrade their newly established café and shop. ‘Parker’s Yard’ was added late last year when the museum site expanded into the former ‘Gun Cottage’ – between the original workers’ cottages and frameshops and the old Knitters’ Chapel. This allowed a brand new visitor entrance, hospitality and retail area – including a separate new garden. It was achieved via grants totalling hundreds of thousands of pounds from The Heritage Lottery Fund, FCC Communities Foundation, various…

Seeds and Strolling for Uganda

It’s now three years since we first found out that Ruddington’s last remaining public telephone box would be decommissioned – when BT Payphones announced its lack of use made it no longer viable to keep it in service. The Grade II listed, traditional, red, cast iron kiosk in front of the War Memorial on Church Street {pictured top left} is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Because it’s an important heritage landmark, within our village Conservation Area, ideas were invited to put it to an alternative use through…
