Pupils who attend Ruddington’s Infant and Nursery School have themselves at home unexpectedly today – after a flood of raw sewage affected the playground and the area around the main entrance. The incident at James Peacock School in Manor Park happened just as the school day was finishing yesterday (Monday December 6th) and was apparently caused by a sewage inspection cover springing a leak. It led to the cancellation of all classes today – with some parents and guardians having to hastily re-arrange their schedules to look after their children instead. A…

Dismay Over Lost Ruddington Trees
The felling of two large trees – which had been part an attractive, green canopy above Manor Park for many generations – has caused shock and sadness among villagers. Emma Revill, who kindly supplied RUDDINGTON.info with the photos (above and below), contacted us in dismay last Thursday (August 19th) when she saw that two of the tall, Beech trees by the roadside in front of James Peacock School had been chopped down. She called it “tragic” – and was very keen to find out the reason why. With the ‘climate emergency’…

The head teachers of both our village schools have confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been detected among their pupils. After a positive COVID-19 test result last week from a Year 4 student from St Peter’s Junior School on Ashworth Avenue, seventeen others from the same year group have also since tested positive for the virus, including a member of staff. Consequently, most of this year are now in isolation. Then, this morning, a parent reported to us that a class of children from James Peacock Infants School in Manor Park were turned away at…

It seems the Ruddington Walking Bus – which launched as a permanent, daily service between Ruddington’s two schools last September – is proving a big hit with parents, pupils and staff. After over a year of planning, and a successful trial in June last year, the Walking Bus between James Peacock Infant and Nursery School in Manor Park and St Peter’s C of E Junior School on Ashworth Avenue now takes children, chaperoned by adults, on a daily walk to their school along a set route – in much the same…

It’s the end of an era for Ruddington – as our last remaining public telephone box has just been granted planning permission by Rushcliffe Borough Council for a rather interesting change of use. The Grade II listed, traditional, cast iron, red kiosk – in front of the War Memorial on Church Street – is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Although an important heritage landmark for our village within the Conservation Area, BT Payphones decided that its lack of use made it no longer viable…

It’s certainly been a busy 2019 so far for Ruddington’s The Mustard Seed Project, Uganda! There’s lots to report about the charity’s continuing hard work – including much fundraising to progress its projects. In this bumper RUDDINGTON.info update, trustee Ruth Keen writes: Most notably, perhaps, was that during the first week of June, trustees were delighted to welcome the Reverend Charles Okunya Oode. Rev Charles is the ‘man on the ground’ in Uganda and coordinates the work of the Mustard Seed Project – helping make best use of the funds that are…

After over a year of planning, and a successful trial in June this year, it’s been announced Ruddington’s ‘Walking Bus’ between James Peacock Infant and Nursery School in Manor Park and St Peter’s C of E Junior School on Ashworth Avenue is here to stay. The daily ‘service’ will enable children, chaperoned by adults, to walk…

Last summer we revealed that a ‘Walking Bus’ was being proposed for Ruddington. After a survey was carried out, and followed up with two information evenings, it was decided there was enough interest and support to test out the idea in our village. After much planning, the first trial is this week! A ‘Walking Bus’ is a fun, healthy, safe and environmentally friendly way for children to get to and from school. It enables kids chaperoned by adults to walk to their school along a set route – in much the same way a school…

A Police pursuit through Ruddington this afternoon ended up with the car the officers were following colliding with the gateway at the Churchill Drive end of Manor Park. It would seem the driver was unaware he would come across a closed gate – which brought the vehicle to an abrupt halt. Eye witnesses saw one person from the crashed car being detained at the scene but another running off. The front bumper of one police car was ripped off during the incident. Police helicopters could then be seen and heard in the…

Back in August we posted about the summer fundraisers for Ruddington’s Mustard Seed Project and about their role in helping James Peacock School celebrate the 50th anniversary of its move to Manor Park. Now those involved can reflect on all that’s been achieved! The project’s Charlene Robinson writes: “Following on from the fashion show that we held earlier this year which enabled us to begin to build a primary school in Teso, Uganda, we’ve had an amazing summer of fundraising at the Mustard Seed Project. In August Julie Allen and Ruddy bear leapt…
