Every year shoppers at our village Co-op help to provide much needed cash for three local good causes via their ‘Local Community Fund’. During the last funding year, the Ruddington branch handed out a total of £11,458.25 to local projects in need via ‘The Big Co-op Payout’ – split between Ruddington District Girl Guiding, NG11 Foodbank and Together@Clifton. As hundreds of visitors flocked to today’s festive Ruddington Village Market, its volunteer organisers learned they’d won a grant from Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) to make it even better next year! Ruddington Celebrations for Charity Grant

There are celebrations at St Peter’s Church this month after the Teso Development Trust charity (TDT), which has been supported by the Ruddington church for over 15 years, won a major grant from the UK government to expand its work in a deprived area of Uganda. Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are welcoming Nottinghamshire County Council’s announcement that it will provide the necessary funding for free school meals over this half term. As we reported on Saturday, many in our village, including St Peter’s Junior School Headteacher Michael Bradley, were critical of the Government after a Commons bid to extend free school meal vouchers to holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs last week. A new government funded scheme which is aiming to help hospitality businesses attract trade back after COVID-19 closure is launched this week – and will run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday throughout August. Ruddington’s Co-op Supermarket has today presented cheques totalling over fifteen thousand pounds to the three beneficiaries of last year’s ‘Local Community Fund’. The grand local total for the 2018/2019 ‘Big Co-op Payout’ was £15,665.20 – comprising £5610.45 for Bloomin’ Dementia (top photo), plus £4827.65 for St. Peter’s Church and £5227.10 for Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (below). It’s been announced that the creation of Ruddington’s long awaited “safe” footway from Clifton Road via the Old Station Drive development directly into the Pasture Lane Estate will finally begin this Monday! Framework Knitters’ Museum wins National Lottery Funding

Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum has received initial National Lottery support for a new project called ‘A Right Good Yarn’. Made possible by National Lottery players, the project aims to expand the museum into an adjacent property called ‘Gunn Cottage’, purchased in 2013, and redevelop the existing space. The monies will also allow vital conservation and renovation works to take place.
