Five Years of Free Trees

With concerns about our warming climate brought into sharp focus this week by record-breaking temperatures, eco-conscious Ruddingtonians may be pleased to hear that we can now apply for more FREE trees this summer. For the fifth year running, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is offering residents the chance to make our properties greener without charge. It’s part of the authority’s stated strategy “to provide sustainable environments in line with the Borough’s significant housing and employment growth in the coming years”. This is certainly the case for Ruddington, where hundreds of new homes…

New Dwelling Declined

Plans to erect a contemporary, new home in Ruddington’s conservation area, right alongside The Green, have been rejected by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). The application [22/00485/FUL] by Building Design (Nottm) Ltd would have seen the demolition of the garage belonging to 6, The Green (‘The White House’) to make way for a modern two storey house (plus attic room) to be built ‘next door’ over the current garden – filling the “gap” seen in the photograph above. You can find further details >>HERE<<. The two reasons RBC gives for rejecting these plans are:- “The…

Yet Another Green Flag For Our Country Park!

A popular Ruddington, visitor attraction has received its fourteenth consecutive Green Flag Award, acknowledging it as one of the very best parks in the UK. Ruddington Tree Wardens Wanted

An appeal has been launched by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) for environmentally minded Ruddington residents to apply to become tree wardens – and ensure the trees in our village are protected and nurtured. Tree wardens are volunteers appointed by Parish Councils to champion local trees and woods, involve fellow residents in tree projects and protect local trees by reporting early signs of insect pests, disease and vandalism. The initiative follows RBC’s free tree scheme last year – which saw over 1,600 trees given to residents and Parish Councils to plant in…

Village Planners’ Petanque Practice on The Piste

There’s been a lot of activity around the Neighbourhood Plan consultations in the past month, but that doesn’t mean the Village Plan group has been sitting idle. With a pétanque piste proposed on The Green, that’s just ONE of the things they’ve been working on! Chair Gavin Walker writes: Committee members meet monthly and work hard with other organisations to ensure that the development priorities identified by the villagers of Ruddington stay on track as far as possible. Active links with the Parish and Borough Councils are important, as well…

More Trees for Ruddington?

Ruddington should benefit from some of the thousands of trees which are set to be planted across Rushcliffe in the next three years. It’s part of a £50,000 project which Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) promises will “ensure sustainable environments in line with the Borough’s significant housing and employment growth.” These days woodland covers only 5.75sq km (1.04%) of Rushcliffe, so all the trees we have are important. The reason for the low woodland cover in our area is partly due to the fertile soils and its high value for agriculture –…
