Painting Pictures in Our Park
The Visitor Centre at Rushcliffe Country Park was the venue for another recent gathering on Rushcliffe Social Prescribing team’s ‘Friendship Calendar’ – aimed at engaging with local people to tackle social isolation. Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘Reach Rushcliffe’ initiative funded this free session in Ruddington last month, which was attended by over a dozen people. They learnt tips on how to paint using watercolours whilst meeting like-minded people and, hopefully, making some lasting friendships. The one-off taster was hosted by village resident Debra Webster of Ruddington Art & Craft Society. as…

Home is where the heart, as the saying goes. And that’s certainly the case for William Davis Homes sales consultant Kelly Rudkin, who has returned to the village where she was born. Kelly is the friendly face that customers see when they visit the beautiful Lace Fields development on the edge of Ruddington, the Nottinghamshire village where generations of her family have lived. “Many years ago, my dad was the village greengrocer, plus I went to school here, so it’s wonderful to come back to a place which means such…

Did you know that Ruddington Women’s Institute has been active in our village for ninety-nine years? Ahead of their centenary celebrations, current members are extending a warm welcome to any woman to join them, regardless of age. They’re also keen to dispel some common misconceptions. Committee member Barbara Wheeler says: “Contrary to popular belief, the WI is not all about baking and jam making! Some of us enjoy doing that, but others like to go on visits in the local area, join in the various activities at our meetings or…

A less ‘formal’ form of churchgoing is now available in Ruddington thanks to a new initiative hosted at The Framework Knitters’ Museum. Held on alternate Thursdays from 11am in the Old Methodist Chapel, off Parker’s Yard, organisers say everyone’s invited to ‘Framework Church’. The name was chosen because of the meeting location rather than any connection with the venue itself. Jane Gray, of St Peter’s Church, explains: “A steering group of 7 of us have been meeting in the space for about a year, exploring the idea of a church…
