After having already been closed to through traffic twice this year for roadworks, one of the main access routes in and out of Ruddington will soon be shut again. Thankfully this time it’s just for a few hours – and also at the weekend – so is less likely to cause disruption for drivers than the previous repair and resurfacing work on Clifton Road between Camelot Street and Old Station Drive which took place in January following a burst water main. Government Adds to Pothole Pot
It’s hoped Ruddington’s roads might benefit from a central Government boost to local maintenance funds to speed up much needed pothole repairs. Nottinghamshire County Council has announced it has been awarded £8.28million specifically for fixing road craters in Nottinghamshire as part of the Department for Transport’s £2.5billion ‘Pothole Fund’. This is in addition to an existing allocation of £22.57million for general highway maintenance across the county. Cllr John Cottee, Chairman of the council’s Communities and Place Committee, says: “We welcome this investment from the Department of Transport. We know that potholes are a large…

Villagers are up in arms about the large number of motorists flouting a current four-day road closure in Ruddington. As we reported last week, Clifton Road was shut to through-traffic yesterday (Monday) to allow major resurfacing work which is needed to repair damage caused by a burst water main earlier this month. Despite the icy conditions, and the fact that the old road surface was removed yesterday, eyewitnesses say numerous drivers are simply disregarding the closure by mounting the kerb and either driving along the pavement or going up on…

Village residents are being warned there’s more disruption ahead for drivers when one of Ruddington’s busiest roads is closed again for major repairs. Earlier this month Clifton Road was shut to traffic for 24 hours after Severn Trent Water workmen turned up to fix a burst water main on a Sunday (January 10th 2021) but there was no one available to fill in the hole and patch the road until the next day. Now highways officials have decided the already well-worn stretch of road needs major attention, following this latest…

Consequently, Clifton Road remains completely shut* to traffic between the junction with Camelot Street and Old Station Drive – with the usually busy route set to stay closed into tomorrow. In fact, it could take up to three days to fully re-open it. Vehicles caught out by the closure have been performing U-turns in the road since lunchtime…
