Charging Ahead in Ruddington?

You may be surprised to hear that there are now over 182,000 plug-in electric vehicles registered in the UK – and they’re becoming an increasingly common sight here in Ruddington, too, with dozens of drivers in our village having already made the switch from petrol or diesel. These national statistics are for cars and vans that are zero-emission capable by running only on electric power for a reasonable range – that’s to say pure-electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). Both types are able to be recharged via a plug, unlike conventional hybrids.…

Philip Lewis BA (Hons) MA MRTPI of the Planning Inspectorate has revealed these will be held over three weeks, commencing on Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 9.30am – primarily at Rushcliffe Arena. They will discuss the main issues and questions for the…

Revised Access Plans for Asher Lane Rejected

In May we reported how Space Foods Ltd had successfully appealed to the Planning Inspectorate to allow it outline planning permission for 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road. This shock decision was despite massive opposition to the development from residents, Ruddington Parish Council – and Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal of the plans. Although originally considered as part of its Local Plan Part 2 (RUD07) three other village Green Belt sites were chosen in preference. The outline plans that were given the green light on appeal show access to the new housing development…

More Travellers in Ruddington!

After Sellors’ Recreation Ground twice became a temporary home to members of the travelling community over the summer the latest Ruddington encampment is at the other end of our village. SIX caravans rolled into the Visitor Car Park in Rushcliffe Country Park at around 10am this morning (Monday 1st October) and parallel parked near to the exit. It soon became clear they intended to remain longer than the maximum permitted 8 hour stay! Rushcliffe Country Park Manager Keith Laing was alerted to their presence – who then reported it to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC), which…

Ruddington’s Green Belt Hangs in the Balance

The fate of dozens of acres of green fields surrounding our village now lies in the hands of the Government following last month’s submission by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) of its draft Local Plan Part 2 to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. The Ruddington Green Belt sites earmarked by RBC for housing development were decided upon after years of consultations with residents, businesses and other organisations involving both the Borough Council and Ruddington Parish Council. The end result was a proposed allocation of 350 new homes over…

More Ruddington Recycling

Towns and villages across Rushcliffe have just received further recycling and litter bins to help promote ‘Recycling On The Go’ – an initiative to reduce street litter and encourage residents to place items in the right place and the right bin. The dual stream recycling bins allow recyclable cans and plastic bottles to be placed in one side and general waste in the other. Church Street in Ruddington, next to the bench near the war memorial, is one of the new locations to benefit. Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder…

Can You Spare Some Coppers for Coppers?

A Ruddington dog lover has launched an online fundraising appeal for her pet’s favourite exercise spot – after poor weekend weather put people off attending a special event there aimed at raising more cash to maintain and improve it. Rain fell on Sunday (26th August) as the 3rd Anniversary “Fun Dog Show” was taking place in and around Coppers Dog Activity Trail at Rushcliffe Country Park – keeping many pooches and their owners away. The woodland trail, designed exclusively for canines, was created and built with over one thousand volunteer hours and opened…

Respect Our Country Park!

Visitors to Ruddington’s Country Park are being urged to show respect to other users, and clean up after themselves, after pictures emerged on social media yesterday (Tuesday 21st August) of a large amount of discarded litter left strewn dangerously in and around the children’s play area. Chris Greaves, who was at Rushcliffe Country Park and took the photographs, said it was in the wake of some kind of group celebration – where no effort was made to tidy up after themselves. He posted: “They completely trashed the area to the…

Travellers Evicted – Again – Finally!

First of all, it was due to be at 8 o’clock this morning (Monday 13th August) – a time which quickly slipped to 3pm due to enforcement availability issues. Then, when Bailiffs arrived at Sellors’ Playing Field for the planned eviction this afternoon, they were informed that some of the men (and hence their vehicles to tow the caravans off with) were working in Peterborough! Almost another six mickey-taking hours later, with Police, Bailiffs and Council officials all having been left hanging in limbo to see them off the site and…

The Travellers Return!

Local residents and park users could only look on in disbelief this lunchtime as the welcome return of the rain coincided with some probably less welcome members of the travelling community casually letting themselves back onto Sellors’ Playing Field and setting up camp again. It’s just one month since a group of travellers – which adjacent householders told us they thought were mostly the same people as this time – were evicted from the same site after breaking into the Ruddington recreation ground at the start of July. On that…
