It’s just over two years since Ruddington Parish Council gave its backing to a new Ruddington Neighbourhood Plan (RNP) which, theoretically at least, gives village residents direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and to shape the development and growth of our local area. Since then it’s been run by a hard working group of volunteers in tandem with our Ruddington Village Plan (which was published in the summer of 2017) and has explored further areas where a Neighbourhood Plan can give communities additional influence. This includes choosing where we want…

Revised Application Fails to Reduce Number of Houses
Ruddington residents, Councillors and campaign groups are dismayed that an updated planning application for a major housing development on flood prone fields west of Wilford Road still shows no reduction in the proposed number of homes – despite it being for over a third more new properties than designated in Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s Local Plan. After nothing but public objections to Bloor Homes‘ previous submission, its latest plans for this soon to be rescinded area of our Green Belt are a slightly changed version of the application submitted in June this year. They include…

In the wake of at least 525 new houses being approved on large chunks of our village Green Belt earlier this month, Ruddington Green Party is calling for anyone who cares about our countryside to sign a national petition to ‘Cease all new developments on Green Belt and greenfield sites across the country’. They say it’s “…a small way to respond the the encroachment and environmental damage which is being done locally.” Ruddington’s two Labour Borough Councillors – who were the only two members to vote against the approval of Rushcliffe Borough…

Have you noticed a rather subtle addition to the landscape in Rushcliffe Country Park? It’s not the bench itself but rather the yellow notice attached to it! Yes, Ruddington’s very first ‘Happy to Chat Bench’ is now available for anyone who’s willing to sit and talk. It’s an initiative launched by the Senior Citizen Liaison Team to help combat loneliness often felt by older people in later life. Bristol based SCLT is made up of a team of volunteers who provide bespoke safety presentations to community groups and organisations, as well as…

It’s just over a week since we revealed that FOUR Green Belt areas around the edge of our village had been given the Government Planning Inspector’s blessing to be sacrificed for at least 525 new houses. In his report, Senior Inspector Philip Lewis BA (Hons) MA MRTPI concluded that Rushcliffe’s Local Plan Part 2, as submitted for examination, was “legally compliant and sound, subject to a number of modifications” he has recommended. None of these recommendations involved removing any houses from Ruddington’s quota! At the Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) ‘Extraordinary Meeting’ called last night (Tuesday…

It’s just been officially confirmed that dozens of acres of Ruddington’s precious Green Belt, at four locations on the edge of our village, have been given the government’s blessing to be sacrificed for new housing development. It’s after Rushcliffe’s ‘Local Plan Part 2: Land and Planning Policies’, as submitted for examination, was declared “legally compliant and sound” by the HM Government Planning Inspector – albeit subject to a number of minor modifications which he has recommended. The long awaited verdict means that the Green Belt sites chosen by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) here and elsewhere…

A motion proposed and seconded by Ruddington Councillors that Rushcliffe Borough Council should reduce its use of, and future investment in, fossil fuels was passed unanimously at its meeting last night. Labour Borough Councillor Jennifer Walker, who was elected to represent Ruddington earlier this year, told RUDDINGTON.info they had been approached as a party, by residents and action groups in Rushcliffe, asking them to deliver a motion for the divestment of fossil fuels. “We finished on the final draft after much negotiating with the other members of different political persuasions in the…
