Another Celebration at Rushcliffe Country Park

Once again a Green Flag has been raised in Ruddington’s Country Park – acknowledging our local green space as one of the very best outdoor spaces in the UK. Rushcliffe Country Park has been named again among 2,208 UK parks and green spaces that have received the 2022/2023 Award, which sets the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and around the world. Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change, Cllr Abby Brennan, joined The Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park volunteer group…

It’s a 13 mile trek starting at Darley Moor and concluding at the Biggin Village Playing Fields. They’ll be taking in some beautiful Derbyshire scenery along the way…

Thousands Raised During Village Open Gardens

Organisers of this month’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend have revealed the event was a great success – securing almost £4,500 for their two chosen charities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usually biennial was last held in 2018, but it returned even bigger and better on 2nd & 3rd July 2022. Through the weekend people across our village once again allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Jane Piggott says: “The organisers are very…

New Rules for Ruddington Dog Walkers

Village residents who exercise their four legged friends in public places now need to be careful not to ‘fall foul’ of new regulations. Under amended rules which came into force today (Friday 8th July 2022) all dog owners/walkers in Rushcliffe must now carry a bag or have other means to pick up dog waste after their pet whenever out and about – otherwise face a possible £100 fine if unable to produce one on request. Proposals for a Dog Control Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) across the entire Borough were approved…

‘Open Gardens’ Return After Four Year Gap

After all the excitement of Ruddington’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at the beginning of June, there’s another, big weekend event taking place all over our village at the start of next month. On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm on both days, ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ is back for the first time since 2018.  It is usually held biennially to raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic, with all the associated restrictions, forced its cancellation in 2020. However, organiser Jane Piggott is pleased…

It’s RuddFest Weekend!

With surprisingly little ‘fanfare’ this year, Ruddington’s much loved annual beer, cider, gin, food and music festival is back – running from today (Thursday 9th) until Sunday (12th June 2022), starting each day at noon. The popular, four-day, village event usually takes place each year following the second Bank Holiday in May. However, in 2020 ‘RuddFest’ was cancelled altogether due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then delayed by the Coronavirus until August last year. Now, in 2022, it’s very nearly on schedule again – just a week later because of last weekend’s ‘Platinum Jubilee’ celebrations…

More Green Time … Less Screen Time!

A Ruddington based nature group, run by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, is inviting more village children aged between 8 and 12 to get involved with its monthly sessions. Leader Geoff East from the Trust says: “Nature is a human need – central to the quality of our most fundamental needs, as well as our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. If society is serious about supporting green initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, we need to find ways in which we can all contribute. We must ask ourselves how…
