Blue Buses to Go Green!

Ruddington’s main bus operator has announced that its entire fleet of single decker buses will be fully electrified from next year. This includes replacing the three diesel-powered Navy 3 branded Optare Solo buses which Nottingham City Transport uses for its Nottingham to Clifton route via Ruddington. The city is to receive £15 million of Government funding towards the cost of 78 brand new buses in total, plus the additional required electric charging infrastructure. All NCT’s existing single decker fleet – serving 18 bus routes across the Greater Nottingham area – will then be replaced, starting…

Ruddington Aid Reaches Ukraine

A big hearted duo from a Ruddington pub, who decided to collect together a van load of humanitarian aid and drive it to Ukraine themselves, have just returned home safely. As previously reported, John Noble and Dave Frankie, the owner and manager of The Frame Breakers on High Street, set off last Sunday morning (20th March) on their epic return journey to Przemysl in Poland, near the Ukraine border. Thanks to generous donations from Ruddington and beyond, their hire van was stacked to capacity with food, warm clothing, sleeping bags, nappies,…

New Emergency Works Cause Delays

Drivers accessing Ruddington along Clifton Road are facing unexpected hold-ups after temporary traffic lights appeared there this morning (Thursday 24th March). A gas leak was detected between the Old Station Drive turn and the Pasture Lane roundabout – resulting in Cadent Gas installing 24 hour two-way signals and digging up the westbound carriageway over the former railway bridge. As this is one of Ruddington’s busiest routes, motorists are being warned to expect delays – especially at peak times – while the escape is traced, excavated and repaired.  We’re being warned…

COVID-19 Rife Again in Ruddington!

With the horrendous situation in Ukraine dominating the news agenda at the moment, the ongoing issue of the Coronavirus pandemic is perhaps understandably no longer at the forefront of villagers’ minds. In the last couple of months alone, the Government (in England) has dispensed with the mandatory wearing of face coverings in most public settings, withdrawn ‘contact tracing’ and removed the legal requirement for us to take tests or self-isolate. Then, just last week, as it continues its plan for ‘Living with COVID-19’, even the need for taking COVID tests…

Further Cycle Racks for Ruddington

Parking provision for those who visit our village centre by bicycle is set to be improved further by the addition of three more pairs of cycle racks on High Street and Church Street. It follows Ruddington Parish Council‘s installation of two pairs of cycle racks on The Green in January as part of the Ruddington Village Centre Partnership ‘Traders’ Village Improvement Plan’.  It has taken the others a little longer to get through Nottinghamshire County Council‘s planning process. However, they’ve now been approved outside Morton’s Deli/Phoenix Flowers, Ruddington Fish Bar and Coral Bookmakers…

Still School Disappointment for Some

At the start of this month we reported the joy of children in their final year at St Peter’s Junior School in Ruddington at securing their places at Rushcliffe Spencer Academy this September. Formerly Rushcliffe School, the West Bridgford secondary school has traditionally been the first choice for Year Six pupils in our village – allowing friends to stay together as they progress to ‘big’ school. In sharp contrast to the year before, and despite continuing pressure on school places, this time ‘National Offer Day’ (March 1st) resulted in every child at St…

Ruddington Rallies for Ukraine

Day after day we are continuing to witness horrific images on television and online of Russia’s shocking and unprovoked attack on Ukraine. Residential buildings and hospitals are among those being bombed in an apparent bid by The Kremlin to seize control of the independent, East European nation. The attempted invasion has already resulted in thousands of reported civilian deaths since it was launched on February 24th 2022, to the incredulity of most of the rest of the world. Whilst many thousands of Ukrainians have stayed behind to help their military, and try to…
