The Beast is Back!

Ruddingtonians awoke to another blanket of snow this morning – as the effects of the so-called “Beast from the East #2” were felt across the area. Early casualties were yesterday’s Ruddington Village FC fixture against Awsworth Villa FC at Elms Park and today’s Stroke Association ‘Resolution Run’ at Rushcliffe Country Park – both of which were postponed yesterday, anticipating the icy conditions. Rescheduled 2018 Rushcliffe Run

If you’re a keen runner but thought you’d missed out on taking part in this year’s Rushcliffe 10k & Fun Run there’s good news – you haven’t! Last Sunday’s event was postponed for safety reasons due to the heavy snow and icy conditions – and has been rescheduled for Sunday 25th March. One positive consequence is that a limited number of new spaces have become available for the previously sold out 10k Run – whilst room remains for participants in the 5k Run and 2.5k child friendly Fun Run, too! “The Beast” Hits Ruddington!

After having escaped the worst impacts of the bad weather sweeping the UK earlier this week, Ruddington has seen the heaviest snowfall of the winter during the past 24 hours – thanks to the effects of the so-called “Beast From The East”. Villagers awoke to a blanket of around three inches of drifting snow this morning – accompanied by icy north-easterly winds. A Ruddington Village Football Club player is turning heads on national television after joining the ‘Boys’ team on the new ITV2 “battle of the sexes” reality TV show ‘Survival of the Fittest’. Villagers who stayed up through the early hours of this morning to watch Ruddington ice dancer Penny Coomes and partner Nick Buckland skate their hearts out for Team GB in the finals at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang were rewarded with another wonderful performance at the Gangneung Ice Arena. After sailing through yesterday’s Ice Dance to qualify for today, the duo found themselves up in the Bronze Medal position after their Free Dance routine – choreographed by Nottingham ice skating legend Christopher Dean along to music by rock band Muse. Update on our Village Plan

You may remember that something of a milestone was reached last summer with the publication of the definitive Ruddington Village Plan –  your vision for how our village should develop over the next 5 to 10 years. Village residents are once again rooting for Ruddington ice dancer Penny Coomes – as she and skating partner Nick Buckland battle it out against the best – representing Team GB at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang. Kidney transplant recipient and Ruddington resident, Mark Brown, is making his final preparations before representing Great Britain at the 10th Winter World Transplant Games (WWTG) in Anzere, Switzerland, next month. The 2018 Games take place from the 7th to 12th January, with Team GB comprising 12 adults and one junior – plus six children competing in the Nicholas Cup. If you’re a keen runner, you may like to know that entries for next year’s Rushcliffe 10k, Fun Run – and a new 5k option – are now open! The 2018 event in Ruddington’s Country Park will be on Sunday March 4th.
