‘Fun Fest’ Raises Thousands for Ruddington Kids

Organisers of the summer fundraiser at Ruddington’s Infant & Nursery School are celebrating its success after more than doubling last year’s total; making it their most successful event to date. Helped by some glorious weather, Friends of James Peacock School reveal they made just over £3,400 during their ‘Summer Fun Fest’ – which was held in the school field at Manor Park last Friday (16th June 2023). The Friends raise money for the school to assist in making it a memorable and positive experience for all of its children. A team of…

Fabulous Feedback from ‘The Big Sing’

Ruddington was alive with the sound of music yesterday – as around 170 voices demonstrated the joy of singing at various venues around our village. Organised by Ruddington Community Choir, ‘The Big Sing’ was back – after a five year absence due to COVID-19 and other factors – and it seems participants from near and far quickly and eagerly picked up from where it had left off. The big day (Saturday May 20th 2023) started with a ‘Mass Workshop’ in St Peter’s Church where singers learned ‘I’m Into Something Good’ and…

Get Ready for ‘The Big Sing’

It’s been rather a long wait, partly due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Ruddington’s much loved singing festival is finally back this month. As before, the aim is to enjoy singing together, and anyone can take part, whether you can sing or not! ‘The Big Sing 2023’ is run by Ruddington Community Choir, who hope it will be a welcome boost to our village economy, too.  Organisers estimate over 160 people will gather between 9am and 6pm on Saturday 20th May, with the event starting and ending at St Peter’s Church. Participants will…

Ruddington’s Rescheduled ‘Big Sing’

It’s almost six months since we brought you the disappointing news that the ‘Ruddington Big Sing’ would not be returning for 2022 after all – having been cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It had previously taken place every two years. Postponed from 8th October last year, organisers Ruddington Community Choir have confirmed a rescheduled date this May – its traditional ‘slot’ in the village calendar – with tickets available now! Organisers stress that the ‘Big Sing’ is open to anyone and everyone who enjoys singing; you do not have to be a…

More Ruddington Aid for Ukraine

Organisers of a popular pre-Christmas concert in our village have revealed that it raised hundreds of pounds for humanitarian aid in war-torn Ukraine. ‘Handel’s Messiah’ is traditionally performed every two years by Ruddington & District Choral Society (RDCS) in St Peter’s Church. This time around, on Monday December 12th, its members chose the work of The British Red Cross in Ukraine as the good cause to support. Thanks to the generosity of the audience, following their performance a total of £500 was raised towards the aid effort. RDCS Secretary Maggie Bar…

Christmas 2022 in Ruddington

After the ‘lockdown’ Christmas of 2020, and the rather restrained festive season of 2021, Ruddington’s celebrations in 2022 look as if they might just be the biggest and best ever! That’s certainly the case for this weekend’s ‘Ruddington Christmas Market’ (on Saturday December 3rd) which, as previously reported, will comprise over a hundred indoor and outdoor stalls of food, drink and gifts, two covered pop-up bars and stages of live music, and children’s activities. Now organised by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) it will take place along both High Street and Church Street (road closures…

Thousands Raised During Village Open Gardens

Organisers of this month’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend have revealed the event was a great success – securing almost £4,500 for their two chosen charities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usually biennial was last held in 2018, but it returned even bigger and better on 2nd & 3rd July 2022. Through the weekend people across our village once again allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Jane Piggott says: “The organisers are very…

‘Open Gardens’ Return After Four Year Gap

Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic, with all the associated restrictions, forced its cancellation in 2020. However, organiser Jane Piggott is pleased…
