With ‘Halloween month’ and ‘firework fortnight’ now behind us, it may be alarming to realise that Christmas is less than six weeks’ away! However, rest assured, festive plans at venues around our village are already well advanced. Ruddington’s FIRST chance to see Santa Claus is actually on Friday November 30th at St Peter’s School on Ashworth Avenue. Their annual ‘Christmas Fair’ runs from 6pm until 8pm – and you can book in advance to see Santa by clicking >>HERE<<. The BIG ‘Ruddington Christmas Fayre’ will be held the day after…

New Owner at The Cottage
After a few months in transition, we can confirm that Ruddington’s Country Cottage Hotel is now officially in new hands. Former staff member Sue Martin is the new owner and director – after completing the purchase from Julie and Andrew Sturt on October 25th. Throughout the process it’s been ‘business as usual’ for Sue, General Manager Linda and their team. The former Boots employee actually only branched out into hospitality in later life, after raising her children. Following a spell at The Walton Hotel in the city, Sue got her job…
Read MoreCharging Ahead in Ruddington?
You may be surprised to hear that there are now over 182,000 plug-in electric vehicles registered in the UK – and they’re becoming an increasingly common sight here in Ruddington, too, with dozens of drivers in our village having already made the switch from petrol or diesel. These national statistics are for cars and vans that are zero-emission capable by running only on electric power for a reasonable range – that’s to say pure-electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). Both types are able to be recharged via a plug, unlike conventional hybrids.…

Another new initiative to attract shoppers into our village centre – aimed at both residents and visitors – will be trialled early in the New Year. Now organisers are looking for local traders interested in having a stall. The idea of a Ruddington Farmers’ Market has been doing the rounds since just after Easter – when Ruddington Parish Council called an Extraordinary Meeting. This was to see what help it, and our community, might be able to offer local businesses during tough times for traditional shops. Attended by around 140 concerned…
Read More‘Residents Only’ Parking Plans Cause Controversy
A landmark consultation on proposals to make the majority of two Ruddington village centre streets ‘Residents Only’ parking during Monday to Saturday daytimes ends this Wednesday (November 6th). The Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) plans (which we reported upon last month) have certainly caused some controversy! If implemented they would make most of Charles Street and Parkyns Street unavailable for shoppers and other visitors from 8am to 6pm any day except Sunday, as shown on the map below. The only people who would be allowed to buy a permit to park there would be…

Read MorePositive Reception for New Loyalty Card
The Ruddy Good Loyalty Card, launched at the start of this month, seems to be getting the thumbs-up from Ruddington village shoppers and traders so far. The FREE new card, which offers monthly #RUDDYGOODOFFERS at dozens of our village centre outlets, was the idea of the Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP). It is seen as a great way of encouraging residents and workers to spend their time and money here rather than elsewhere – in addition to attracting regular visitors to use our businesses by showcasing what they have to…

The good news was announced during a glittering ceremony at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Sunday night. Owner Mahbu Noor was there to hear the announcement and collected the special plate from journalist and TV presenter Jon Snow {above}. It follows on from two years of success there for chef Monaim…
Read MoreNew Village Centre Parking Restrictions Proposed
The issue of finding somewhere to park in Ruddington for visitors, local residents and workers is being addressed in new plans by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC). It follows growing complaints from shoppers and traders about the lack of daytime parking spaces in our village centre. When a maximum two hour waiting limit was introduced in more areas a few years ago it just seemed to move the problem on to the unrestricted streets – causing even more misery for residents trying to park near their homes. A survey by Ruddington Parish…
