A popular Ruddington, visitor attraction has received its fourteenth consecutive Green Flag Award, acknowledging it as one of the very best parks in the UK. Of course, Rushcliffe Country Park is also much loved and well used by thousands of village residents – with this safe, open, green space right on our doorstep being especially appreciated by locals during the Coronavirus outbreak. In fact, these international awards were a little delayed by COVID-19 this year, but it didn’t stop Ruddington again being among a record-breaking 2,061 UK locations which have now received…

‘Help My Street’ Reaches Ruddington
A new online platform – which aims to make both becoming a volunteer and requesting help in Ruddington a simple, safe and effective process – is being launched this weekend. Although Help My Street is a national, not-for-profit Community Interest Company, the team who mobilised volunteers in our village to help our vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ has worked alongside Ruddington Parish Council to develop a dedicated Ruddington homepage – the first village in Nottinghamshire to have one. This will allow people from our community to register to help others in…

If you enjoy combing Ruddington’s charity shops for bargains, your prayers are answered – because the usual buzz has just returned to one of them. And the volunteers say it’s good to bee back. (That’s it. We’re done now! – Ed) The Honeycomb is the first of the three fundraising shops in our village to re-open after an extended closure due to the Coronavirus, (which, of course, shut all our non-essential retailers for almost two months during the ‘lockdown’). The Church Street shop – which raises money for those who are…

Rushcliffe Councillors are presenting bouquets of flowers to volunteers across the Borough this week as a ‘thank you’ for assisting fellow residents during COVID-19 whilst reflecting National Volunteer Week (June 1st to 7th). Alex Broughton and Sue Matthews {pictured above} of Ruddington Covid-19 Mutual Aid Group have received some beautiful blooms from Phoenix Flowers to recognise their fantastic efforts helping villagers in need during the Coronavirus outbreak. They were nominated for the accolade by Ruddington Councillors Cllr Mike Gaunt, Cllr Jennifer Walker and Cllr Gary Dickman – who themselves have been closely involved in…
Read MoreStay Off the Tracks!
Managers at Ruddington’s heritage railway centre have issued a trespass warning – after reports that a number of people have been walking along their tracks between here and East Leake. It seems the problem started as villagers sought out longer, ‘socially distanced’ walks when exercise restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak were eased. It also appears to have been exacerbated by an online video blog recommending this activity – for which the blogger has since apologised. It’s clear that she, and others taking to the empty tracks, didn’t…

Volunteers in Ruddington are celebrating securing a slice of the Nottinghamshire County Council cash which has been allocated to help support communities during the COVID-19 crisis. The first round of County Council funding – so far worth more than £260,000 overall – has just been awarded to 85 groups helping vulnerable Nottinghamshire residents through the Coronavirus pandemic. £5,000 from that pot is coming to our village. ‘The Nottinghamshire £1m Community Fund’ forms part of the Council’s response to provide advice and support for communities during the unprecedented outbreak. Eligible groups can each apply…

The Ruddington COVID-19 Community Response Team – which was formed last month primarily to help older and more vulnerable villagers who were self-isolating due to the Coronavirus outbreak – has leapt into action again! This time it’s to assist our two schools in enabling further home schooling for village children, which is restarting this week. Under normal circumstances, of course, ‘homework’ would not necessarily be that popular. However, it’s being reported that the current ‘lockdown’ means many local youngsters have been eagerly awaiting these doorstep deliveries, to give them ‘something to do’!…

It was around a month ago, before the Government lockdown began, that people in Ruddington began to realise the sort of stringent measures which would be needed to slow the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in order to protect especially those in our village most at risk. As previously reported, Rushcliffe Borough Councillor Jen Walker took swift action after the March Councillors’ Surgery and – joined by members of Ruddington Village Centre Partnership, St Peter’s Church, Ruddington Mums and Alex Preston from The Bottle Top – within days set up a volunteer group and launched the Ruddington…

One of the many, regular events missing from our village calendar for the foreseeable future is Ruddington Village Market – which has now also been suspended during the UK lockdown to limit the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus. The next one should have been this Saturday at The White Horse – also closed because of the pandemic. However, Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP), whose volunteers usually organise the monthly event, say: “The spirit of Ruddington is amazing! The village has come together in an incredible way to help those isolated and in need during these…

With stocks of certain essential items still hard to find at Ruddington’s supermarkets due to the recent wave of Coronavirus induced panic buying, our local food bank is appealing for more donations at a time when the demand for it is growing. Although the Government has pledged financial help for those now unable to work during the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, at least in the short term more people are having to turn to food banks – because they can no longer afford to feed their families or buy them…
