Positive Response to Solar Farm Plans
Proposals for a renewable energy park on current agricultural land to the south west of Ruddington seem to have received a mostly favourable reaction from villagers so far. Further details about this planned green power project were revealed today (Tuesday 22nd March) by Ridge Clean Energy during the first of its two public exhibitions being held in St Peter’s Rooms. The solar farm would be built on 99 hectares of arable land belonging to Ruddington Fields Farm and involve installing solar PV, batteries, access tracks and associated infrastructure. Ridge Clean Energy are proposing a renewable energy park, consisting of a solar farm and battery energy storage system, on land to the south west of Ruddington Village. We have been developing, constructing and operating clean energy projects in Great Britain since 2003 and are keen to elevate the importance of producing domestic, homegrown, clean renewable energy. Fair Oaks Renewable Energy Park would generate as much electricity as is used by approximately 11,200 homes annually, offsetting carbon emissions from fossil fuel generators. With protecting our natural environment increasingly at the forefront of many people’s minds, one agenda item at this Tuesday evening’s Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) Cabinet Meeting is attracting particular interest amongst villagers. On September 28th last year, Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed the ‘Leaders Pledge For Nature’ at the United Nations Summit on Biodiversity, along with 64 other countries, seeking to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. The pledge states: “We are in a state of planetary emergency: the interdependent crises of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation and climate change”. The Chartered Institute for Ecology…

Ruddington residents and groups can make their properties and communities even greener by applying for FREE trees for a third year running. It’s part of a continuing strategy by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) to provide ‘sustainable environments’ – as villagers brace ourselves for significant housing growth in the next decade. Over 5,700 trees have already been distributed by the authority since the start of its campaign in 2018. This time around, crab apple and hazel trees are available without charge. The crab apple, or Malus Sylvestris, can grow to 12 metres and…

The challenging issues of climate change and plastic pollution are at the forefront of many people’s minds at the moment. That includes dozens of environmentally conscious pupils at St Peter’s Junior School in Ruddington – who have got together to form ‘The Green Team.’ The seed was sewn after a group of schoolchildren attended last year’s WE Day event in London which inspired them to think about sustainability, raise awareness of green issues and take action to protect the planet on which we live. Deputy Head, Mr Mawer, explains: “After that, a…

As eco-friendly initiatives in our village gather momentum into 2020, January sees “The Great Big Ruddington Clothes Swap”. It is being run by community-minded High Street business The Bottle Top in conjunction with The Co-op. It will begin with a week of donations of unwanted quality women’s clothes, shoes and accessories, for which you will receive vouchers. Then there’s a Sunday afternoon event at St Peter’s Rooms where you can use these vouchers to “buy” other people’s items. Any stock that’s left over after this event will be donated to…
