Be Considerate This Summer

For many Ruddington children, the arrival of the summer school ‘holidays’ this year has been rather less of an occasion – with the majority not having attended classes since March 20th anyway, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. However, kids with too much time on their hands during hot weather – with home schooling on pause and with even less things to do than usual due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions – can lead to trouble. This has prompted an appeal from Rushcliffe’s Police Inspector Craig Berry to show consideration for others over…

‘So Far So Good’ Say Police

Rushcliffe Police say Saturday’s easing of ‘lockdown’ restrictions – meaning Ruddington’s numerous pubs and other hospitality venues could reopen their premises – did not create any major issues for its officers. As we reported on ‘Super Saturday’ (July 4th), the new freedoms saw the centre of our village the busiest it’s been for many months (top photo) helped by the return of the Ruddington Village Market, on The Green. Most villagers and visitors seemed to be adhering to the required ‘social distancing’ guidelines. Julie Smith of the Black Cat Café tells us:…

This week saw the first use of state-of-the-art ‘Eye in the Sky’ technology by Rushcliffe Police – leading almost immediately to two suspected criminals being caught. As we reported last year, Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have jointly invested in THREE new drones to help them fight both crime and fires – as well as to assist in search and rescue operations. During specialist training, officers have had to learn how to fly in various environments and in both day and night-time conditions to enable our area to have 24/7 coverage. Ruddington has three 24-hour cashpoints around the village, and officers say: “If you are passing any cash machines please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police using the 999 system. These attacks are different than some you may have heard about recently where gas has been used to blow open the ATM’s.” Police have also issued a warning to BMW drivers…

Fuel Thefts Dominate August Crime Stats

The figures are revealed in the Force’s statistics for August, just released. Out of just eleven reported offences during last month in Ruddington, five of them were motorists driving off from the Loughborough Road filling station without making payment. Interestingly, however, police have again excluded the four day return of travellers to Sellors’ Field in the middle of the month…
