Christmas 2022 in Ruddington

After the ‘lockdown’ Christmas of 2020, and the rather restrained festive season of 2021, Ruddington’s celebrations in 2022 look as if they might just be the biggest and best ever! That’s certainly the case for this weekend’s ‘Ruddington Christmas Market’ (on Saturday December 3rd) which, as previously reported, will comprise over a hundred indoor and outdoor stalls of food, drink and gifts, two covered pop-up bars and stages of live music, and children’s activities. Now organised by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) it will take place along both High Street and Church Street (road closures…

Council’s School Places Plea

Parents of children who are starting Year 6 this September are being advised strongly to list four preferences when applying for their child’s secondary school place for next year – to avoid losing out on their preferred school for September 2023. While next September may feel a long way off, Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) says parents and guardians of Ruddington children who are about to start their final year at St Peter’s Junior School (or, indeed, at a school elsewhere) should be thinking about their application for secondary school right now…

Special School Plans Approved

The wheels are now in motion for a Grade 2 listing building here in Ruddington to begin a new chapter in its history – after planning permission for a ‘special school’ there was granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). As RUDDINGTON.info reported in April, an application was submitted by Polaris Children’s Services to turn ‘Easthorpe House’ at 165, Loughborough Road into a school for pupils with special educational needs. The approval means the former offices of NHS Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group will soon be back in use to provide classrooms for around 80 pupils aged…

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

A Royal Oak Tree, which has been growing in the garden of a former Ruddington Parish Councillor for a decade, has now taken pride of place on our village green; whilst one of Ruddington’s biggest employers has added a new Hornbeam Tree in its grounds at Ruddington Hall. These new trees (pictured above) are just the latest additions to ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ in Ruddington to celebrate Her Majesty’s seventy years on the throne – with the former being planted by MP for Rushcliffe Ruth Edwards during the ‘Platinum Jubilee…

New School for Ruddington?

When NHS Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group relocated from Easthorpe House to new premises in June 2020, the future of the Grade 2 listed Ruddington property looked rather uncertain. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing by then, for its landlords Carlton Street Trading finding new tenants for this large but attractive building off Loughborough Road was likely to prove more difficult than usual. Thankfully for them, in the interim, the generous and picturesque grounds have enabled both an open-air ‘Castle Rock Brewery Beer Festival’ and a ‘Pop-Up Beer Garden’ run by Annie’s Burger Shack to be…

‘Offer Day’ Relief For Our Junior School Pupils

Children in their final year at St Peter’s in Ruddington are celebrating this week after it was confirmed they will be able to stay with their friends in September. Tuesday was ‘National Offer Day’ – when the parents and guardians of all current Year 6 pupils attending our village junior school were informed whether or not they had been successful in getting their son or daughter a place at their chosen secondary school. In Ruddington this has traditionally been Rushcliffe School in West Bridgford – now known as Rushcliffe Spencer Academy.…

Inspector’s Ruddington School Report Revealed

“St Peter’s C of E Junior School continues to be a ‘Good’ school.” That’s the verdict of Ofsted Inspector Jayne Ashman – following her visit to Ruddington on 11th & 12th of January 2022.  Receiving its first new rating for five years was a slightly tense time for Head Teacher Michael Bradley who only took up his ‘new’ post in January 2020. Mr Bradley succeeded a much loved predecessor, John Mapperley, who had been Head Teacher at St Peter’s for the previous 12 years. However, despite the most difficult of times during the COVID-19 pandemic,…
