Eagle-eyed villagers who’ve ventured down Clifton Road during the past couple of days may have wondered why men in fluorescent jackets were digging up a perfectly good pavement!? Well, we can reveal it’s part of ‘exploratory’ excavation work to determine the depth of utility services there for ‘design purposes’ for the installation of a proposed ‘Toucan’ pedestrian crossing. Village motorists are being warned to expect further hold-ups and disruption in the coming weeks; both as contractors carry out various highway works and festive events begin in Ruddington. First up, this Monday and Tuesday (31st October & 1st November) there will be two-way traffic lights on Loughborough Road south of the Mere Way/Yarrow Drive Roundabout as improvements are made to the footpath there. As the darker nights return, drivers and pedestrians in Ruddington may be pleased to hear that long-awaited work to replace a missing lighting column in our village centre is scheduled for this weekend. It’s around a year since an electrical fault in the base of the street light at the corner of High Street and Charles Street caused it to rather dramatically burst into flames and then slowly ‘wilt’ to the floor. Flawforth Lane Shut This Week

As well as empty filling stations caused by panic buying, there’s another source of angst for Ruddington’s hard pressed motorists this week – the closure of Flawforth Lane. Thankfully it’s due to take place only from Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th September – substantially less than a previous three week closure sought last month by Linden Homes in connection with its ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development.
