Hospice Shop Reopens

A popular Ruddington charity shop is finally back in business again – over sixth months after having to close its doors due to the Spring Coronavirus ‘lockdown’. Bosses from Nottinghamshire Hospice decided to use this window of opportunity to carry out an impromptu ‘refurbishment’ to our village outlet, since drain work was also required on the premises. This had almost been completed in July, ready for reopening, when disaster struck: A severe thunderstorm hit Ruddington and the resulting deluge flooded many High Street shops – including number 10. As we…

The Old Bakehouse Tearoom

If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to drop in for a tea or coffee, and perhaps a bite to eat, the quintessentially English surroundings of Ruddington’s Old Bakehouse Tearoom are well worth a try. In a world where so much has been changed by COVID-19 – including the new ‘Test & Trace’ app QR code scan box on the counter, customer ‘one-way system’ and ‘socially distanced’ tables – these new measures ensure Lesley Wells and her staff can serve you in safety whilst continuing to go that extra mile to…

Ruddington’s New Sainsbury’s

Eagle-eyed drivers along Loughborough Road may have already spotted the further changes underway at our filling station – with a new Sainsbury’s outlet opening imminently. For a village which already boasts a Sainsbury’s Local, some may think this is a little excessive. However, this is a rather different shop – aimed more at passing motorists than local residents – and branded “On the Go!” The new retail format was launched in February and is being rolled out to dozens of Euro Garages sites, including here in Ruddington. It focuses on an…

Supermarket’s Hallowe’en Relaunch!

There was a scary start for Ruddington’s new-look Co-op food store today as holidaying children from our two village schools dressed up in Hallowe’en outfits for the official ‘reopening’. Pupils from James Peacock and St Peter’s Schools gathered together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony (top) which marked the end of an extensive nine week programme of works at our Church Street supermarket, costing over one million pounds. However the 6,000 square foot store, which supports up to 30 local jobs and runs on 100% renewable electricity, remained open throughout the refurbishment. The remodelled Co-op…

Our New Look Bookies

It’s just over two months since the relative peace and quiet of a Sunday evening in Ruddington was shattered by the dramatic arrival of fire crews, cordoning off High Street and smashing through the door to tackle a blaze at our village bookmakers. On 23rd June 2019 our branch of Coral had already closed for the day when smoke was seen billowing from the building and the emergency services called to the scene at just after 7pm. The fire was quickly extinguished and the cause identified as an electrical fault in the back…

Our New Look Library

Ruddington Library is reopening on schedule this weekend, following its refurbishment, and villagers should notice a rather contemporary restyling – INSIDE at least! It’s taken almost two months to complete the makeover, but Inspire, which runs the library on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, hopes that users will be pleased by the upgrades. There was always going to be a limit as to what could be achieved externally, with this ageing building’s rather unattractive, flat-roofed, sixties’ design. Light grey window panels instead of the former maroon coloured ones are the only obvious…

NO PARKING on Dutton’s Hill

…but it’s only temporary! Restrictions are to be put into place from 8am this Sunday, September the 3rd until 5pm on Sunday, the 17th of September, to allow work to be carried out on the High Street side of Ruddington Fish Bar (their former pizza takeaway entrance) to re-render the walls. The scaffolding means that no parking, waiting, loading or unloading will be allowed from the northern boundary of number 8 Wilford Road (Dutton’s Hill) in a southerly direction to the northern boundary of number 8 High Street during this two week period (see map).…
