Whilst our village centre is now ‘buzzing’ again following the return of non-essential retail after a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions on April 12th, shoppers may have noticed there’s still no sign of life at one of Ruddington’s much loved charity shops. Green Light for New Footbridge

Trustees at Hareham Gardens Allotments have received the go-ahead to build a new bridge across their brook. It’s welcome news for the many gardeners who use it, since the current wooden bridge linking the 62 plots (pictured above with Plot 4 in the background) has begun to rot, leading to fears it may soon become unsafe. It’s set to be replaced with a ‘long-life’ concrete bridge. Where’s Ma’s Mah Jong Gone?

An appeal has been launched by a member of a famous Ruddington family for an item of great sentimental value which was accidentally given to a village charity shop. Musician Guy Phethean is on the hunt for a ‘Mah Jong’ set, belonging to his mother Kathy, donated to the Nottinghamshire Hospice Shop in Ruddington in the autumn of 2018. An old age pensioner in Ruddington is among those thanking a big hearted but anonymous donor after yet more ‘random acts of kindness’ this Christmas. For the fourth year in a row in our village, envelopes each stuffed with £100 in £20 notes landed on a handful of residents’ doormats on December 24th, marked simply with the words ‘Random Act of Kindness’. Although pupils will be able to stay in class during the Government’s new, national COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ from Thursday, the Coronavirus has already had a noticeable impact at one of our village schools this week. Council to Fund Half Term School Meals

Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are welcoming Nottinghamshire County Council’s announcement that it will provide the necessary funding for free school meals over this half term. As we reported on Saturday, many in our village, including St Peter’s Junior School Headteacher Michael Bradley, were critical of the Government after a Commons bid to extend free school meal vouchers to holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs last week. Hospice Shop Reopens

A popular Ruddington charity shop is finally back in business again – over sixth months after having to close its doors due to the Spring Coronavirus ‘lockdown’. Bosses from Nottinghamshire Hospice decided to use this window of opportunity to carry out an impromptu ‘refurbishment’ to our village outlet, since drain work was also required on the premises.
