William Davis Homes is the latest property developer to show its hand in Ruddington by publishing proposals for around 180 new homes it wants to build on “land off Mere Way”. This is one of the Green Belt sites earmarked in Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Local Plan Part 2 – outlined in red above – which was formerly known as RUD13. RBC’s plan suggests 170 houses to fulfil its quota on this land – slightly less than these new proposals are showing. Leaflets, containing a ‘freepost’ comments form, have been dropping through…

Ruddington’s Day with The Planning Inspector
December 4th 2018 could go down as the historic date which determined exactly how many hectares of our village Green Belt would be sacrificed for housing development over the following decade. After many years of consultation and confrontation, it’s the meeting that will determine whether the three Ruddington sites earmarked for new homes under Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Local Plan Part 2 {shown in BLUE above} are rubber-stamped – or otherwise – by the Government’s Planning Inspectorate. You can read the background to this long running saga elsewhere on the RUDDINGTON.info website –…
Ruddington’s Green Belt Hearing Dates Announced
The Planning Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to examine the “soundness” of the Rushcliffe Local Plan Part 2 – Land and Planning Policies (published by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) in May this year) – has announced the dates of the Public Hearing Sessions. Philip Lewis BA (Hons) MA MRTPI of the Planning Inspectorate has revealed these will be held over three weeks, commencing on Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 9.30am – primarily at Rushcliffe Arena. They will discuss the main issues and questions for the…
Revised Access Plans for Asher Lane Rejected
In May we reported how Space Foods Ltd had successfully appealed to the Planning Inspectorate to allow it outline planning permission for 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road. This shock decision was despite massive opposition to the development from residents, Ruddington Parish Council – and Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal of the plans. Although originally considered as part of its Local Plan Part 2 (RUD07) three other village Green Belt sites were chosen in preference. The outline plans that were given the green light on appeal show access to the new housing development…
Ruddington’s Green Belt Hangs in the Balance
The fate of dozens of acres of green fields surrounding our village now lies in the hands of the Government following last month’s submission by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) of its draft Local Plan Part 2 to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. The Ruddington Green Belt sites earmarked by RBC for housing development were decided upon after years of consultations with residents, businesses and other organisations involving both the Borough Council and Ruddington Parish Council. The end result was a proposed allocation of 350 new homes over…
What Next for Ruddington’s Green Belt?
Ruddingtonians have now had a little time to digest the shock news that around 175 new houses are to be built off Asher Lane – a Green Belt area formerly known as RUD07 (in red on the map) – after Rushcliffe Borough Council’s original planning refusal for the site was overturned by the Government’s Planning Inspectorate. The appeal ruling was all the more surprising given the long standing opposition by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), the many hundreds of objections from local residents, and the fact that it was no longer…
Asher Lane Housing Approved!
Ruddington has LOST its long running battle with housing developers who’ve applied to build a major new housing estate on Green Belt land off Asher Lane. Following an appeal hearing last month granted to Space Foods Limited by The Planning Inspectorate, Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s decision to refuse them outline permission for the site has been overturned. This means around 175 new homes can now be built on this land – bordered by Asher Lane, Musters Road, Western Fields and the footpath alongside the Great Central Railway line (see top photo). Hundreds…
Local Development Plan Published
The final consultation phase before rescinding substantial areas of Ruddington’s Green Belt for new housing development began today at 5pm with the publication of the Draft Rushcliffe Local Development Plan Part 2. This was approved at Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Full Council meeting on April 26th. At that meeting, all but ONE Councillor in the Chamber voted to go ahead with the publication of the Plan as drafted – with all three of Ruddington’s Borough Councillors approving the three final shortlisted sites on Ruddington’s Green Belt to build a total of around 350 homes. This was…
Housing on Ruddington’s Green Belt Moves Closer
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s “Local Plan” reaches a very important stage this Thursday, with a decision on whether it will move to the final “consultation” phase. The publication draft of the Local Plan Part 2 is due to be discussed at their Full Council meeting on April 26th. The most significant aspect of this plan for Ruddington residents is that it would recommend getting rid of three long-designated Green Belt areas on the edge of our village to accommodate up to 350 new houses. The three sites chosen to be rescinded, following…
