Bus Bottleneck Banished?

Plans to eliminate peak-time problems on roads outside a Ruddington school have been revealed by highway planners. Nottinghamshire County Council is proposing to put new double yellow lines at the junction of Ashworth Avenue and Packman Drive and to introduce “bus stop clearways” at the adjacent stops. It’s to prevent drivers parking, waiting or picking up and dropping off passengers there, and follows complaints from Nottingham City Transport, which runs its Green 10 service through the estate. The operator says inconsiderate parking during the St Peter’s school run frequently causes…

What Next for Ruddington’s Green Belt?

Ruddingtonians have now had a little time to digest the shock news that around 175 new houses are to be built off Asher Lane – a Green Belt area formerly known as RUD07 (in red on the map) – after Rushcliffe Borough Council’s original planning refusal for the site was overturned by the Government’s Planning Inspectorate. The appeal ruling was all the more surprising given the long standing opposition by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), the many hundreds of objections from local residents, and the fact that it was no longer…

Asher Lane Housing Approved!

Ruddington has LOST its long running battle with housing developers who’ve applied to build a major new housing estate on Green Belt land off Asher Lane. Following an appeal hearing last month granted to Space Foods Limited by The Planning Inspectorate, Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s decision to refuse them outline permission for the site has been overturned. This means around 175 new homes can now be built on this land – bordered by Asher Lane, Musters Road, Western Fields and the footpath alongside the Great Central Railway line (see top photo). Hundreds…

Popular Cut-Through Closed this Week

Motorists who enjoy shaving a little off their journey time by taking the estate route between Wilford Road and Loughborough Road in Ruddington may be disappointed this week. Gas work by Cadent on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council means that St John’s Road will be closed to traffic from this Monday (23rd April) for up to five days. This closure is necessary because the gas main which needs to be disconnected runs right down the middle of the road from the former Bostock’s DIY shop at 70, Wilford Road – recently…

What About OUR Ruddy Road?

Residents in the Brookside Road area of Ruddington were left bewildered after Nottinghamshire County Council‘s contractors upped and left before completing the promised and desperately needed work on their crumbling roads. The bad weather had meant the planned pothole filling work on Camelot Street and repair and resurfacing of the rest of the estate was slightly behind schedule – with only Grange Avenue and Fairham Close being completed before the weekend. As the snow thawed on Monday morning, householders in the other streets obeyed the new signs; to keep their roads…

Ruddington’s Roads Resurfaced

The yellow signs are up heralding the long-awaited road repairs which are desperately needed throughout a couple of our village housing estates. Soon cars and bikes will no longer have to negotiate their way around muddy potholes – once Micro Asphalt resurfacing works have been carried out by Via East Midlands on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council. However local residents will have to plan for their road to be closed, with no parking allowed, between 7.30am and 5.00pm on at least one weekday this month. The latest schedule shows another delay to…

Wilford Road Water Work

The new roadworks scheduled this week at Ruddington’s northern boundary have been delayed due to the icy conditions and predicted heavy snow. Two-way 24-hour temporary signals were due to be in operation on Wilford Road from first thing TODAY (Monday 26th February) until this Wednesday (28th February) around 40 metres south of the Landmere Lane junction. Severn Trent Water needs to dig up the road to install a new connection to an existing main in order to supply the new housing next to the new care home there. Once this work begins, traffic flow…

Revised Asher Lane Housing Plans

Last December we reported how Space Foods Ltd had decided to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal to allow it outline planning permission for 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road – with access off Asher Lane. Those proposals were lodged in January 2017 – after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn two years earlier. The Borough Council refused this second application on THREE main grounds: 1) Noise. The developers didn’t indicate how they would deal with the noise…
