Our Tree Planting Parish Councillors

Did you know Ruddington Parish Council has a new ‘Tree Planting Working Group’? It’s been formed to improve biodiversity and create spaces for nature within our village. Long before the announcement earlier this month about ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ to mark her Platinum Jubilee, Councillors Graham Fletcher, Holly Law, Leo Lanzoni, Ken Piggott and Chloe Lewington had already decided to put their efforts into making Ruddington a more attractive place to live and work – although most of their own activities are limited to Parish Council land or property. Recently,…

Frustration Over Rushcliffe School Appeals Failure

Angry Ruddington parents have written a joint letter to our MP and to our newly elected Nottinghamshire County Councillors after their children were declined a place at Rushcliffe School in September 2021 – despite living in the catchment area and attending a feeder school. Eight village families with a son or daughter currently in their final year at St Peter’s Junior School, who unsuccessfully appealed the decision to send their kids to South Wolds Academy in Keyworth instead, have now written to Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards, Cllr Reg Adair and Cllr Matt Barney…

Thy Kingdom Gone

It’s been revealed that a Christian bank, which changed hands in 2020 for a reported £7 million, is moving out of Ruddington Fields Business Park. The institution uses financial services to support Christian churches and charities – with its profits utilised to support Christian causes. Bizarrely – other than our Post Office – Kingdom Bank on Mere Way was Ruddington’s only remaining banking facility, albeit telephone and mail based, after the closure of our village centre branches of HSBC, Barclays, Santander and The Nottingham. Kingdom’s mission statement is: “To glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by…

Fostering in Ruddington

As ‘Foster Care Fortnight’ continues, more village residents are being encouraged to come forward to see if fostering could be right for them. Foster carers, social workers and staff from Nottinghamshire County Council’s fostering service have come together this year to share their own messages of #WhyWeCare. The two week campaign, which began on May 10th, aims to spread the message in Ruddington and beyond that further foster carers are needed for children who are in care. According to The Fostering Network charity, every 20 minutes another child comes into care needing a…

Indoor Hospitality Reopens

This week’s milestone date of Monday 17th May has been pencilled in our diaries for a few months now – the point promised on the ‘roadmap’ for a further easing of Coronavirus restrictions in England – assuming all went to plan. Hospitality venues in Ruddington preparing to reopen indoors had begun wondering in recent days whether clusters of cases of the new ‘Indian’ COVID-19 variant in other parts of the UK might put a spanner in the works – following fresh warnings from some scientists not to proceed with ‘Step 3’…

Reported Village Crime Increases Post-Lockdown

Crime statistics for Ruddington, just released by Rushcliffe Police for April 2021, show a significant rise in reported offences when compared with the first three months of this year. The end of the strictest ‘lockdown’ measures here is thought to be a contributory factor – with more people now out and about and more village premises now open for business. Car crimes also increased during last month. Sadly, further graffiti vandalism was reported at Great Central Railway Nottingham – after a similar incident in January – whilst drive-offs without paying for…
