A village mum has come up with a groundbreaking initiative to help both the environment and low income families in our village – the Ruddington Children’s Clothing Library. After first doing a bit of market testing via Ruddington Mums, Sally Dyson launched her new library last month – and is now hoping to spread the word about it even further. The library loans out children’s clothes for a fixed period of time, on payment of a refundable deposit. Ruddington’s main public transport operator is celebrating yet again – after receiving no less than THREE “Gold” UK Bus Awards, including the ‘Environment Award’. Of course, the benefits of ‘Green NCT – Home of the World’s Largest Fleet of Bio-Gas Double Deckers’ have been felt directly in our village – since Nottingham City Transport (NCT) replaced all our Green 10 buses with these brand new, environmentally friendly vehicles last year. They use fuel produced from waste through anaerobic digestion. Residents from the new Pasture Lane estates, and those who enjoy walking to Rushcliffe Country Park, are celebrating the completion of a long awaited all-weather surface on a key pedestrian access route. After much campaigning by villagers, and lobbying by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) has now completed its promised work on “Footpath Number 5”.  In recent years there have been many complaints of it becoming unusable during periods of wet weather, usually over the winter, due to puddles and mud. Ruddington Co-op Targeted Overnight

Nottinghamshire Police have been at Ruddington Co-op in the aftermath of an incident which left the front window next to the cashpoint smashed. A Crime Scene Investigation team was deployed to the scene this morning to comb for clues. Following a spate of offences in which cashpoints in our region have been ripped out with farm machinery, and had their money stolen, it was at first thought this may have been a similar incident. Ruddington’s Great Central Railway is buzzing with excitement today (Saturday 17th November) as rail enthusiasts from around the country flock here to an event involving not just ONE but TWO unique, restored high speed train powercars. It’s a railtour with a difference as The 125 Group partners with The Branch Line Society and East Midlands Trains (EMT) to take a newly refurbished EMT (ex-Grand Central) six coach HST set from Derby to Ruddington and back again. New Owner at The Cottage

After a few months in transition, we can confirm that Ruddington’s Country Cottage Hotel is now officially in new hands. Former staff member Sue Martin is the new owner and director – after completing the purchase from Julie and Andrew Sturt on October 25th. Throughout the process it’s been ‘business as usual’ for Sue, General Manager Linda and their team. The former Boots employee actually only branched out into hospitality in later life, after raising her children. This morning, at Ruddington’s War Memorial, hundreds of villagers gathered in the sunshine on the date and time exactly a century ago that the signing of the Armistice marked the official end of the First World War. This Centenary was an especially poignant time to remember the sixty one servicemen from our own village, who fought for their country between 1914 and 1918, but who never returned home to their families. You may be surprised to hear that there are now over 182,000 plug-in electric vehicles registered in the UK – and they’re becoming an increasingly common sight here in Ruddington, too, with dozens of drivers in our village having already made the switch from petrol or diesel.
