Travellers on Sellors’ Field Evicted

Families from the travelling community, who unexpectedly made Ruddington their home recently, have now officially been told to leave. Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) says an eviction notice was served upon the travellers today by the legal services firm it has employed to handle this matter. Whilst many are enjoying the extended heatwave and glorious sunshine, unfortunately the hot and dry weather has had a negative impact on one of Ruddington’s key tourist attractions. After safety concerns, Great Central Railway (Nottingham) has cancelled all its planned steam services this Sunday (8th July). Our village is now home to families from the travelling community – after they gained access to Sellors Playing Field and moved their caravans and vehicles onto the recreation ground yesterday (Thursday) teatime. It seems the unexpected visitors managed to lift the locked metal access gate off Wilford Road from its hinges at one side and haul it open to enable them to get in and set up their encampment. Bus Bottleneck Banished?

Plans to eliminate peak-time problems on roads outside a Ruddington school have been revealed by highway planners. Nottinghamshire County Council is proposing to put new double yellow lines at the junction of Ashworth Avenue and Packman Drive and to introduce “bus stop clearways” at the adjacent stops. It’s to prevent drivers parking, waiting or picking up and dropping off passengers there, and follows complaints from Nottingham City Transport, which runs its Green 10 service through the estate. NG11 Foodbank supports Ruddington

Over the years, the Ruddington community have provided incredible support for the NG11 Foodbank, with gifts of food and toiletries made to donation points across the village. In the last year alone, for example, Co-op shoppers donated almost 2000kg of food; the children of James Peacock School collected nearly 200kg for their Harvest Festival; and recently, Sainsbury’s have been donating their surplus fresh and baked produce for next-day distribution. Open Gardens Raises over £2K for Children’s Charities

Organisers are celebrating the success of last weekend’s “Ruddington Open Gardens” – after the final tally revealed that £2280 was raised for kids’ charities! This total will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Over 400 people bought the special programmes and enjoyed perfect weather for the biennial event on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday 24th June – when 14 village gardens and allotments were opened to the public.
