When the Government instructed us to ‘Stay at Home’ to ‘Save Lives’ and ‘Protect the NHS’ at the start of the Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ in March, bus operators quickly put their services on a much reduced ‘core’ timetable – with public transport being deemed for ‘essential travel’ only. As movement restrictions are gradually eased, and more people return to work, the vast majority of Nottingham City Transport (NCT) buses are back to their former timetable from Sunday June 28th 2020. For Ruddington, the reinstatement of the Navy 3 service means residents, shoppers and workers can…

Facial Coverings on Public Transport Become Compulsory
Monday 15th June 2020 is the date when a further easing of the Government’s COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ restrictions means non-essential shops in Ruddington are permitted to reopen. However, it’s also the day that wearing a facial covering becomes mandatory on all public transport – including Ruddington’s Green 10 (and soon the Navy 3) buses run by Nottingham City Transport. This new requirement was announced by the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps MP, on June 4th to provide additional protection against the spread of Coronavirus as passenger numbers slowly start to increase. If…

Nottingham City Transport has set a date of Sunday June 28th to return to normal timetables on most of its buses – following this unprecedented period when only ‘core’ services are running due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus ‘lockdown’. As movement restrictions are gradually eased by the Government, Ruddington’s public transport users will once again be able to catch a bus to Wilford and the City via Clifton Road and Wilford Road when the Navy 3 service (above) is reinstated. After Boris Johnson announced that, from June 1st 2020, primary and junior schools in England could reopen for Reception and Year 1, plus Year 6, both our Ruddington schools decided they were not yet ready to do so. Parents of pupils at St Peter’s C of E Junior School only learned this news for certain on the evening of Friday 29th May, when an apologetic email from school Head Teacher, Michael Bradley, informed them: “Unfortunately we now have no choice but to pause our plans to welcome back our Year…

Hot on the heels of the Government’s announcement that face coverings will be made compulsory on public transport in England from June 15th, Ruddington’s main bus operator has added a nifty new safety feature to its live online bus tracking. It will let passengers check in advance how busy or quiet their bus may be, so they can plan ahead. In future, if you need to make a journey on a Green 10 to or from the city, but the specific bus you catch isn’t critical, you can choose a quieter one…

Nottingham City Transport is running additional bus services from Sunday May 31st 2020 to provide extra capacity for potential increases in demand – as more people return to work and current government restrictions are gradually lifted. However, official advice remains that people should not use public transport except for essential journeys – and that people must not travel if they are unwell, show any COVID-19 Coronavirus symptoms or are living with anyone who is self-isolating. NCT’s Marketing Manager Anthony Carver-Smith, says: “Bus users in Nottingham have followed the government’s advice exceptionally well…

This led RUDDINGTON.info to discover that, out of all the Neighbourhood Watch groups dotted around our village, only ONE of them remains active! That’s the scheme covering the Ashworth Avenue, Packman Drive and Ling Crescent area which was initiated by local teacher and photographer Peter McConnochie: “I live in Packman Drive and decided to set up a local Neighbourhood Watch group several years ago…

Officers say: “We’re working hard over Christmas to keep you and your family safe, but there are steps you can take to help us.” The advice covers five key areas. When you’re out shopping Stay alert and be aware of what’s going on around you, especially in busy shops and crowded streets where thieves and pickpockets may well be operating. It appears officers were also called about three Friday night house burglaries nearby – on Loughborough Road, Elms Park and Sheepfold Lane. It’s known the Loughborough Road break-in happened during quite a short time period between 10.30pm on Friday night and 2.00am on Saturday (9th December).
