Former DIY Shop Plans Approved

Two rather striking new buildings WILL be built in Ruddington after a revised state-of-the-art scheme for a former DIY shop site was finally given the go-ahead by Rushcliffe planners. It’s third time lucky for the contemporary designs after two previous submissions in a similar style were rejected. Permission was originally refused primarily on the basis of “an over-intensive development of the site” and “poor design that fails to take the opportunities available for improving the character and quality of an area and the way it functions”. Digging Begins for “Lace Gardens”

Ten months after being granted planning permission by Rushcliffe Borough Council preparations have begun for the construction of another Ruddington housing development. “Lace Gardens” will see another 28 new homes built in Ruddington at the corner of Brookside Road and Woodhouse Gardens – with the demolition of the current Malmic Lace factory building and two existing houses on the site. All but four of the new homes to be built there will be accessed via a single route off Brookside Road. Compulsory Parking Fees Introduced

If you’re visiting Ruddington’s Country Park this weekend here’s a timely reminder that you must now pay to park – or face a fine. Despite the largely negative public reaction to the proposed introduction of compulsory car parking charges – as we reported here on RUDDINGTON.info in February – Rushcliffe Borough Council has gone ahead with the mandatory £1 fee this month. Previously the £1 parking charge was by voluntary donation – meaning that some visitors chose not to pay it. Making parking charges compulsory is expected to raise an additional £20,000 in annual income for the cash-strapped council –…

Parish Council Favours “Southern Gateway” Housing

Ruddington Parish Councillors have voted in favour of recommending just ONE additional site for potential Green Belt homes – off the A60 Mere Way roundabout (pictured). It follows the Annual Parish Meeting last night during which members of the public were invited to ask questions and comment on a further FOUR sites which Rushcliffe Borough Council has identified for possible new greenfield housing developments in Ruddington. Asher Lane Housing Plans Refused

Ruddington residents can breathe a sigh of relief – for now – after Rushcliffe Borough Council rejected plans to build 175 new homes on our Green Belt north of Asher Lane. The proposals were lodged by land owners Space Foods Ltd back in January after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn just over two years earlier. Dismay at Pay & Display

It seems there has been a largely negative reaction so far to the planned introduction of compulsory car parking charges at our country park this June – even though it will still only cost us a pound! Currently the £1 parking fee is by voluntary donation – meaning that some visitors choose not to pay it. The same noticeboard suggests that regular users contribute £20 per year. Country Park Café Plans

Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park are inviting us to have our say on expanding visitor facilities there. For the last 12 months they have been working with Rushcliffe Borough Council, Franklin Ellis Architects and The University of Nottingham on a proposal to refurbish and upgrade the existing building – and to extend it to create a new café.
