Update from the Asher Lane Inquiry

The Public Inquiry into the refusal by Rushcliffe Borough Council to grant planning permission for the building of 175 homes off Asher Lane in Ruddington began yesterday (Tuesday 17th April) at Rushcliffe Arena under the appointed Inspector, Nick Fagan. After opening speeches by Counsel for both sides, the first person to give evidence was Ruddington Parish Councillor Paul Reedman who made a statement against allowing the appeal, issued jointly by Ruddington Parish Council and Ruddington Action Group, before answering questions from the Inquiry. Asher Lane Appeal Hearing

Residents on Ruddington’s Musters Road estate and along Asher Lane will find out this week whether a property developers’ appeal against the refusal of adjacent Green Belt housing will be successful. Following Rushcliffe Borough Council’s decision to refuse an outline planning application for 175 homes off Asher Lane in April 2017, the applicants Space Foods Ltd lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate – reference number APP/P3040/W/17/3185493. The appeal is actually against the refusal of the land owners’ ORIGINAL plans (below) with two access points off Asher Lane – rather than the revised…

Residents’ Group Seeks Housing Objections

A few weeks’ ago we reported how Space Foods Ltd has submitted revised plans to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) for outline planning permission to build 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road – with access off Musters Road. This is even before this April’s Public Inquiry triggered by Space Foods’ appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against RBC refusing the previous version of these plans – with the access originally proposed off Asher Lane. The planned new access off Musters Road would require the demolition of an existing dwelling which is now owned by the…

Revised Asher Lane Housing Plans

Last December we reported how Space Foods Ltd had decided to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal to allow it outline planning permission for 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road – with access off Asher Lane. Those proposals were lodged in January 2017 – after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn two years earlier. The Borough Council refused this second application on THREE main grounds: 1) Noise. The developers didn’t indicate how they would deal with the noise…

More Parkyns Street Properties?

A row of new homes could be built at the heart of Ruddington’s conservation area if a planning application is given the green light by Rushcliffe Borough Council. A proposal has been submitted by architect Harry Sculthorp on behalf of Steve Tate-Bone to demolish the former Alfred Cooke Machinists‘ building on Parkyns Street and erect terraced housing in its place. It states: “Besides the importance of providing additional homes, we feel passionately that the aesthetic value of the street and surrounding area will be greatly enhanced by the proposed development. The…

Asher Lane Housing Appeal

Back in April we reported that Rushcliffe Borough Council had rejected plans to build 175 new homes on our Green Belt north of Asher Lane. The proposals (above) were lodged by land owners Space Foods Ltd in January after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn two years earlier. Now Space Foods is appealing to the Planning Inspectorate against Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal in an attempt to get this decision reversed. This site was, in fact, originally included in its Local Plan Part 2 as an area called RUD7 – where the Green Belt might be…

Easthorpe Street Housing Approved

A Ruddington hairdressing salon, chiropodist, photography studio, joinery firm and electrician will now need to find new premises – after an application for a housing development off Easthorpe Street was given the go ahead by Rushcliffe planners. Seven new homes proposed by landowner Jeff Hind have been approved there under plans drawn up by Carlton Design Architecture Limited (application reference 17/01690/FUL). Just five villagers objected to the development. Now numbers 35 and 37 Easthorpe Street will be completely demolished – the first being a residential property but the second still home…

Ruddington’s rural perimeter is now threatened with around 410 new homes  – that’s 64% more properties than first proposed. Green Belt Gateways to Go?

It’s been revealed that key Rushcliffe Borough Councillors will decide at a meeting NEXT WEEK which sites in Ruddington will be removed from our Green Belt – in order to accommodate over FOUR HUNDRED new homes. This follows years of deliberation and two public consultations by the council – in 2016 and earlier this year – when villagers were invited to identify preferred sites out of the 14 proposed for Green Belt development. These are shown as RUD1 to RUD14 on the map. The original aim was to accomodate at least another…
