A national campaign pushing for greater racial equality in dance has been launched by a Ruddington dance teacher. Stacey Green is the Principal of Freedom Dance and Performance Arts School on Charles Street, for children aged 2 to 18, which she started in 2002, and these days boasts around 150 pupils. She also co-founded ‘The Freedom Foundation’, which delivers dance, singing and song-writing programmes across schools to improve mental health. Now she’s set up ‘TIRED’ – which stands for ‘Trying to Improve Racial Equality in the Dance industry’. The movement aims to spark conversation…

Another Ruddington Power Cut!
Essential shops and businesses in our village centre working through this second ‘lockdown’ were among those left without electricity early this afternoon when there was yet another major power outage.* Those relying on mains power in order to continue their work had to sit out the interruption to their supplies, which happened at around a quarter to two – also triggering alarms in some High Street premises. It lasted initially for around 15 minutes before being restored briefly but then failing again for a further forty minutes. Western Power Distribution (WPD) has confirmed 1,985…
Read MoreMuseum’s ‘Victorian Life Swap’
Back in July we reported how Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum had reopened with a more personal and ‘socially distanced’ visitor experience – having been shut for four months due to first COVID-19 ‘lockdown’. With full Coronavirus restrictions sadly now back on, once again the doors are firmly closed to the public until at least December 2nd. However, with spare time on their hands once more, staff at the popular village visitor attraction began to wonder what life must have been like without many of the things we take for granted. How…

There’ll be some more fresh faces on High Street this week when a new owner takes over at Ruddington Post Office. It’s almost a year since RUDDINGTON.info revealed the Patels had decided to put their successful business up for sale. However, rather a lot has happened in the world since then which is continuing to have a significant impact on ‘normal’ village life and that of its traders. This essential shop has continued to serve residents during now two COVID-19 ‘lockdowns’ during 2020 – and Nikki Wright and her team…

It’s now two and a half months since we said ‘goodbye to Shane’ at 15, Church Street – and that RUDDINGTON.info revealed that Elms Farm of Costock would soon be moving into Ruddington’s historic butchers’ premises. So what’s going on?! Well, we’re very pleased to report that Elms Farm, run by the Brown family since 1951, is most definitely still opening a butcher’s shop in Ruddington very soon – but in a different location: “The existing shop had been our first choice due to the history behind it” says Jenny Brown.…
Read MoreVillage Crime Hiatus is Over
You may be pleased to hear that, just prior to the new ‘lockdown’, Ruddington enjoyed one of its ‘quietest’ months in recent history when it comes to recorded crime. After 23 incidents were reported to Rushcliffe Police during September, during all of October only 6 crimes in our village came to the attention of its officers – a drop of 74%. None of these offences was anything too major, either, as can be seen below, although another unwelcome incidence of vehicle damage on Cumberland Close was among them:- 4th Oct …
Read More‘Lockdown’ Remembrance in Ruddington
With Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day fast approaching, members of The Royal British Legion, the Parish Council and our Churches in Ruddington say they will still mark these days as best they can – even though the annual commemorations will now fall during the Government’s new, national ‘lockdown’ caused by COVID-19. The worrying resurgence of the potentially deadly Coronavirus means even ‘socially distanced’ services (some of which had resumed at St Peter’s recently) along with any sort of indoor or outdoor gatherings for November 8th or 11th are no longer on…

There is obviously a lot of concern surrounding the growing threat of Coronavirus in Nottinghamshire. Although Ruddington and the surrounding areas have now entered into the governments’ Tier 3 restrictions – with another national ‘lockdown’ from November 5th – you are still able to buy or sell a home when taking the right safety precautions. It is worth noting that anyone who does want to make the most of the stamp duty cuts will have to have an offer accepted on a property before the end of November at the…

All non-essential retailers and hospitality businesses in Ruddington will be forced to close again this week if plans revealed by the Prime Minister today receive parliamentary backing. With trick-or-treating already off the agenda for tonight, Boris Johnson’s Hallowe’en announcement is a scary warning that even more urgent action is required to stem the alarming second surge of COVID-19 infections in England. It follows stricter measures already announced in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Mr Johnson was joined by England’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty and the government’s chief scientific adviser…

Back in the the spring we reported on a unique, online project by a village resident who was busy capturing the community spirit of Ruddington during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic by photographing individual householders and families on their doorsteps or at their front windows. Peter McConnochie‘s acclaimed ‘Portraits Of This Time: Faces of Lockdown’ online portfolio, featuring almost two hundred images taken in Ruddington during March, April and May 2020, was really just a local ‘side project’ which the keen photographer achieved by utilising his periods of permitted daily…
