Easter will be a busy time at Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum with events for villagers and visitors of all ages. This year it’s supporting Knit for Peace by using its historic, Griswold circular knitting machines to knit strips to be sewn into blankets – and is inviting anyone to have a try. Museum assistant Helen Brownett says: “Do come along and join us on any of the Easter weekend days, from Friday 19th April to Monday 21st April, 11-4 to get involved. Respect Our Country Park!
Visitors to Ruddington’s Country Park are being urged to show respect to other users, and clean up after themselves, after pictures emerged on social media yesterday (Tuesday 21st August) of a large amount of discarded litter left strewn dangerously in and around the children’s play area. Chris Greaves, who was at Rushcliffe Country Park and took the photographs, said it was in the wake of some kind of group celebration – where no effort was made to tidy up after themselves. He posted: “They completely trashed the area to the…
Read More‘Walking Bus’ Proposed for Ruddington
A fun, healthy, safe and environmentally friendly way for children to get to our village schools is being suggested for pupils in Ruddington. A “Walking Bus” is a form of student transport for school kids who, chaperoned by adults, walk to school along a set route, in much the same way a school bus might drive them there. Like a traditional bus, walking buses have a fixed route with designated “bus stops” and “pick up times” at which they collect the youngsters. A survey has been launched in collaboration with NHS…

The annual “Summer Reading Challenge” is taking place during the school holidays at Ruddington Library – and it starts TODAY. The initiative, run by The Reading Agency, is aimed at 4 to 11 year-olds. The challenge is to read six or more library books between now and September 9th. It’s hoped that children who take part will become more enthusiastic about reading, maintain their reading level over the holidays and return to school keen and ready to learn. It’s also claimed that the initiative will boost their confidence and self-esteem. Each year’s challenge has a different theme.…

But for those less keen on the alcohol, or needing a break from the stronger stuff, Ruddington has plenty of other village centre venues you can stroll to for a nice, refreshing cup of tea or coffee. This now includes Jasper’s…

Ruddington’s now famous annual real ale and cider festival is happening again from Thursday to Sunday this week. The four day “RuddFest” offers over 150 beers and ciders, alongside wines, Prosecco and spirits throughout the village PLUS live entertainment, a big variety of food and fun activities for the kids. The idea of regular beer festivals in Ruddington began at The White Horse in 2006 when the then tenants Tony Beecroft and Jez Curtis decided to make good use of their generous beer garden for a few extra barrels of real ale and cider from…

In January we revealed that a new Children’s Society shop was coming to Ruddington. We’re glad to report that it began trading TODAY (Friday 23rd March) from Number 2 Easthorpe Street. It was officially opened at 10.30am by the Mayor of Rushcliffe Councillor Barrie Cooper. This is our village’s THIRD charity shop, sited where Crusader Gifts‘ clearance shop – and previously Something Special – used to be. This prominent corner unit had lain empty for most of the last two years so to see it back in use, and bustling with activity, is…
