More Home Schooling Packs Are Landing!

The Ruddington COVID-19 Community Response Team – which was formed last month primarily to help older and more vulnerable villagers who were self-isolating due to the Coronavirus outbreak – has leapt into action again! This time it’s to assist our two schools in enabling further home schooling for village children, which is restarting this week. Under normal circumstances, of course, ‘homework’ would not necessarily be that popular. Praise for The ‘Walking Bus’

It seems the Ruddington Walking Bus – which launched as a permanent, daily service between Ruddington’s two schools last September – is proving a big hit with parents, pupils and staff. Charity Shop’s New Manager

Did you know that our village’s newest charity shop now has a new face at the helm? Stephanie Reed took over as the manager of Ruddington’s Children’s Society branch late last year. The fundraising outlet on the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street first opened its doors in March 2018. The charity is pleased to report that, since then, it has had a good response for donations and is now able stand on its own two feet with stock mostly donated by local people. Money raised at The Children’s Society’s shop here in Ruddington…

Uganda Calling!

It’s the end of an era for Ruddington – as our last remaining public telephone box has just been granted planning permission by Rushcliffe Borough Council for a rather interesting change of use. The Grade II listed, traditional, cast iron, red kiosk – in front of the War Memorial on Church Street – is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Hunting for Hallowe’en!

A dozen of Ruddington’s village centre traders have got together to create a not-too-spooky event for our younger residents and visitors to enjoy this Hallowe’en. The family friendly ‘Hallowe’en Treasure Hunt’ is taking place this Saturday October 26th between 3pm and 5pm, and anyone with children is invited to join in. Those taking part are encouraged to get out their scariest costumes and pick up their ‘Treasure Map’ from The Bottle Top at 3pm. The map will pinpoint all the businesses taking part – plus other areas in the village where participants may be able…

Ruddington’s annual Beer & Cider Festival makes a welcome return this week. “Ruddfest 2019” begins at midday on Thursday 30th May and runs from noon each day until Sunday 2nd June, with a full programme of events and activities taking place on The Green, at The White Horse Inn and at The Frame Breakers. Parents Protest Against Proposed School Redundancies

Dozens of parents and pupils gathered outside James Peacock Infant and Primary School in Ruddington this morning to protest at plans to make ‘a significant number’ of Teaching Assistants (TAs) there redundant. Rumours of job losses started circulating last week when two families reported that Special Educational Needs TAs had already been removed from one to one sessions with their children with less than 24 hours notice was given.
