A weekend of parking prohibition along Mere Way, a morning of temporary traffic lights on High Street and a further complete closure of Dutton’s Hill are among the scheduled works liable to cause disruption over the coming days and weeks in and around Ruddington. Firstly, during all of the weekend Saturday and Sunday 14th and 15th May, and again on Saturday 21st May, many motorists who use Mere Way to park up whilst visiting Rushcliffe Country Park or Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre will not be able to do so. Most of the parking will…

More Village Centre Road Closures
Further complete closures of Ruddington’s main shopping street and Dutton’s Hill are among the roadworks liable to cause disruption over the next few months in and around our village. Firstly, there’s Easter Day work (Sunday 17th April) by Severn Trent for repair and maintenance on High Street, meaning the road will be closed throughout the day with diversions in operation. Nottingham City Transport says between 08:00-17:00 its Green 10/C service will divert: turning left onto Easthorpe St, right on the A60 and right onto Kirk Lane (10) or straight on…

It’s been confirmed that the former Sainsbury’s Convenience Store on Dutton’s Hill – most famously the historic home of Grice’s Electricals for over a century before that – will be reopening as a SPAR franchise after all. All seemed set for this new arrival back in March – with the branded signage installed in readiness. However, after a long pause, RUDDINGTON.info heard in May from AF Blakemore & Son Retail – which oversees 275 SPAR convenience stores across England and Wales – that: “…the site in Ruddington will no longer be joining SPAR therefore will not…

It seems that plans to bring a SPAR Convenience Store to Dutton’s Hill in Ruddington have been abandoned at the eleventh hour. Agents for the Dutch retailer announced previously that a new franchise would open at 12-14 Wilford Road on March 3rd 2021 – swiftly filling the gap left by our Sainsbury’s Local, which had closed just a month before. Although that launch deadline was missed, the SPAR exterior signage went up a couple of weeks later – even including the store’s opening times and facilities – indicating that all was still on track…

The question of what is to replace Ruddington’s former Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill was answered this week – when a new banner (pictured above) appeared outside. Dutch retailer SPAR is soon to move into 12-14 Wilford Road – having itself been replaced by a Sainsbury’s On The Go only last summer at our Loughborough Road filling station. So, effectively, the store chains will have swapped village shops – although the former Grice’s premises are slightly larger and therefore should allow for a more comprehensive range of stock. Ruddington’s new SPAR outlet…

Ruddington village centre shoppers will have slightly less choice from this weekend when our Sainsbury’s Local closes its doors permanently – after just over a decade on Dutton’s Hill. RUDDINGTON.info first revealed this shock news back in October last year, when it transpired this shop had already been earmarked for closure over 12 months’ earlier – along with up to 40 other Sainsbury’s outlets across the UK. However, that was before the COVID-19 outbreak when it appeared villagers were actually making very good use of the Wilford Road convenience store during the…

It’s been announced our Sainsbury’s Local in Ruddington will shut early next year. The shock news comes at a difficult time for many retailers due to the COVID-19 outbreak but, in fact, it appeared villagers were making very good use of our Dutton’s Hill convenience store during ‘lockdown’ – with more of us switching to shopping locally because of the pandemic. However, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson has confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info: “Our Wilford Road Local will be closing in February 2021 and colleagues will have the opportunity to redeploy to other roles in…

Ruddington’s motorists are experiencing further hold-ups – because Cadent gas work on Wilford Road has returned! The company originally began tackling an unexpected problem on Dutton’s Hill before Easter. Emergency works started there to “…trace, then excavate to repair gas escape and reinstate where possible.” However, it appears the issue was not resolved, and the workers, their pneumatic drills and 24-hour two-way traffic lights are all back! Now, drivers through this part of our village are facing more peak time queues, and the single line traffic means all parking outside Sainsbury’s has again…

Motorists are being warned that unscheduled roadworks which have appeared on Wilford Road in Ruddington could be with us for a week! Drivers are facing queues in both directions after a gas leak meant Cadent were called in to carry out essential repairs to the main on Dutton’s Hill. Peak time delays are inevitable as 24-hour two-way temporary traffic lights are in use. Single line traffic means all parking outside Sainsbury’s has been suspended. The work in progress is to “…trace, then excavate to repair gas escape and reinstate where…
