Four trustees of Ruddington based charity The Mustard Seed Project have arrived home from their trip to Uganda having received invaluable, personal updates on its work. Founders of the charity Sally Squires and Jayne Henson, who’re both staff at James Peacock Infant & Nursery School, were joined on their second trip to the country by fellow educators Ian Mawer (the Deputy Head Teacher at St Peter’s C of E Junior School) and Professor Louise Mullany (of Nottingham University). The first stop for the quartet was the capital city Kampala, where they…

Asher Lane Appeal Hearing
Residents on Ruddington’s Musters Road estate and along Asher Lane will find out this week whether a property developers’ appeal against the refusal of adjacent Green Belt housing will be successful. Following Rushcliffe Borough Council’s decision to refuse an outline planning application for 175 homes off Asher Lane in April 2017, the applicants Space Foods Ltd lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate – reference number APP/P3040/W/17/3185493. The appeal is actually against the refusal of the land owners’ ORIGINAL plans (below) with two access points off Asher Lane – rather than the revised…

A few weeks’ ago we reported how Space Foods Ltd has submitted revised plans to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) for outline planning permission to build 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road – with access off Musters Road. This is even before this April’s Public Inquiry triggered by Space Foods’ appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against RBC refusing the previous version of these plans – with the access originally proposed off Asher Lane. The planned new access off Musters Road would require the demolition of an existing dwelling which is now owned by the…

In case you don’t already know, U3A is short for The University of the Third Age. Nottinghamshire organisers are keen to find out if there’s an interest among older villagers to set up one or more groups here in Ruddington. Paul Martinez explains: “We are for retired and semi-retired people and we share learning, fun and friendship in a vibrant, enjoyable and varied way. Members suggest and organise interest groups in a wide variety of subjects, both educational and social. No qualifications are required and none are given.” There have been…
Read MoreMore Trees for Ruddington?
Ruddington should benefit from some of the thousands of trees which are set to be planted across Rushcliffe in the next three years. It’s part of a £50,000 project which Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) promises will “ensure sustainable environments in line with the Borough’s significant housing and employment growth.” These days woodland covers only 5.75sq km (1.04%) of Rushcliffe, so all the trees we have are important. The reason for the low woodland cover in our area is partly due to the fertile soils and its high value for agriculture –…

You may remember that something of a milestone was reached last summer with the publication of the definitive Ruddington Village Plan – your vision for how our village should develop over the next 5 to 10 years. This final version of the Plan was launched in August at the 2017 Ruddington “Summer Fayre” by RVP steering group volunteers (top photo) when villagers could pick up a printed copy of the completed document, ask questions and volunteer themselves for projects flagged up by four years of research. (You can read more about the background >>HERE<<.) The final plan itself contained…
