This morning, Britain’s Sir Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome are set to be among 120 of the world’s elite cyclists racing through our village in the much anticipated OVO Energy “Tour of Britain”. Our main public transport provider has revealed how its services will run before, during and after The Tour of Britain cycle race passes through Ruddington this Saturday, September 8th. If you’re a spectator from outside the village – coming here to watch the 120 top riders speed through – you’re being advised that parking will be at a premium and prohibited along the route itself. A Ruddington dog lover has launched an online fundraising appeal for her pet’s favourite exercise spot – after poor weekend weather put people off attending a special event there aimed at raising more cash to maintain and improve it. Rain fell on Sunday (26th August) as the 3rd Anniversary “Fun Dog Show” was taking place in and around Coppers Dog Activity Trail at Rushcliffe Country Park – keeping many pooches and their owners away. Travellers Evicted – Again – Finally!

First of all, it was due to be at 8 o’clock this morning (Monday 13th August) – a time which quickly slipped to 3pm due to enforcement availability issues. Then, when Bailiffs arrived at Sellors’ Playing Field for the planned eviction this afternoon, they were informed that some of the men (and hence their vehicles to tow the caravans off with) were working in Peterborough! A kitchen designer from Ruddington is back in sporting action this week, taking part in the British Transplant Games. Mark Brown, of Grange Avenue, is competing over in Birmingham from August 2nd to 5th. The games, which have been run annually since 1978, will see over 700 athletes participating in over 25 events cheered on by over 1250 supporters. 51 year-old Mark suffered from the hereditary condition Alport Syndrome, which led to kidney failure at the age of 25. A Ruddington based charity, which aims to give a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families, is celebrating raising over five hundred pounds this summer to continue its work.
