Ruddington Resident Returns to Transplant Games

A kitchen designer from Ruddington is back in sporting action this week, taking part in the British Transplant Games. Mark Brown, of Grange Avenue, is competing over in Birmingham from August 2nd to 5th. The games, which have been run annually since 1978, will see over 700 athletes participating in over 25 events cheered on by over 1250 supporters. 51 year-old Mark suffered from the hereditary condition Alport Syndrome, which led to kidney failure at the age of 25. Over a hundred of the world’s top riders will be passing through Ruddington during the penultimate stage of this year’s OVO Energy “Tour of Britain” cycle race! Ruddington’s third annual “Summer Fayre” is to be held on The Green on Saturday the 21st of July, and promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s. After the success of the first two events it’s again been organised for the village by the Events Team at Ruddington Parish Council – and will take place between midday and 6pm. Twin Town Teams’ Football and Fun!

Ruddington has entertained two young teams from A.G. Grenay, the football club from our French Twin town, Grenay, in north eastern France. Football will be the focus of this week’s visit by another young group from our “twin town” of Grenay. Although the “Twinning” activities (“Le Jumelage” in French) lapsed for several years, there’s recently been a drive to re-establish links and arrange new exchange trips between Ruddington and Grenay – which lies in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. The fun starts on Good Friday (30th March) when the Framework Knitters’ Museum will be holding their annual Easter Bunny Hunt from 11 am to 4pm. Did you know that a Ranger at Ruddington’s Country park used to play top flight rugby for Ireland?! Zoe Fordham’s achievements have been marked with the award of an Irish international rugby cap as she celebrated her country’s 2018 Six Nations Grand Slam success – 25 years after she herself played in Ireland’s first ever women’s international.
